More than 1 in 3 Massachusetts children, 12 years old and younger, live in low-income or homeless situations. Because of their economic hardship, they lack the resources, opportunities, and support to achieve their unlimited potential. Cradles to Crayons, a nonprofit that provides everyday essentials to children experiencing homelessness and poverty, has helped more than 3.4 million children since 2002.
Please consider donating new and like-new clothing and shoes anytime from March 17th to March 28th. Collection boxes will be available near the office. If you have any questions about the drive, please reach out to Abby Farris: farrisabby2@gmail.com, Hingham’s 2025 Project 351 School Ambassador.

Help Wanted!
Do you practice Tai Chi or meditation? Do you love origami? Do you know how to write Chinese calligraphy?
To celebrate our One Book, One School, we are looking for student leaders who read A Wish in the Dark and who would be willing to co-lead a workshop in May. May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage (AAPIH) month. Christina Soontornvat weaves elements of her father's homeland of Thailand into the setting of our OBOS book. In her writing, Ms. Soontornvat shares what she loves about this culture with you, her readers. This inspires us to learn about other Asian countries and their cultures. If you have an idea for an activity and would like to co-lead an after-school workshop, please join the A Wish in the Dark Google Classroom, code hsfddut. You can also see Mrs. Ciocca or Mrs. Goggin if you are interested or have questions.
Pirates worked together using their knowledge of triangles to solve equations. The problems got progressively more challenging and they became better mathematical thinkers in the process.
Highlights from Quebec
A group of students from our eighth grade French classes traveled to Quebec City this past weekend to learn more about Quebec's culture and language. Highlights of the trip included visiting the Ice Hotel and tubing in Valcartier, dogsledding, and visiting a traditional sugar shack, where maple syrup is made. Students had a chance to hear and see the French language all around them, and were able to use some of their French in stores, restaurants and during presentations.

Ambassador Club - "Anything But A Backpack" Day
On Friday, March 14th, the Ambassador Club is hosting a special fundraiser to support the Heroes in Transition organization and the Ruck4HIT team relay fundraiser. Grade eight math teacher, Mr. Santarpia, is participating in this relay for the third year to raise money for Heroes in Transition, a charity dedicated to assisting veterans and military families. During this event, Mr. S and his team will complete a relay that will stretch across Cape Cod while carrying weighted rucksacks.
Students can participate in the fun by bringing their school supplies in anything but a backpack Think creative, wacky, and out-of-the-box (or out-of-the-backpack) ideas!
To join the fun, we ask that students bring a small donation to support my Ruck4HIT team’s fundraising efforts. Every contribution helps make a difference for those who have served our country.
Thank you for your support, and we can't wait to see the creative "backpacks" your kids come up with!

Call for Leaders – Hingham Youth Track and Cross Country
In the Spring of 2021, we launched the Hingham Youth Track program. It was very well received and so we decided to offer Cross Country in the Fall as well. Since its inception, over 500 6th – 8th grade athletes have participated in at least one season of this program.
We have enjoyed leading this program and are proud of its success!
We are looking to pass the torch, as our athletes have graduated. We want this program to continue, as we see tremendous value for all involved. We are looking for 2-3 adults to lead this program going forward. We will train and support these new leaders. If you are interested, please email us at hinghamyouthtrack@gmail.com.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
- Practices are held at HHS weekly and led by HHS Student Coaches who are on the HHS team, with oversight from a professional head coach.
- During the Spring Youth Track season, participants have the opportunity to get started running, try several field events and compete against athletes from other towns.
- Our goals are for the athletes to have fun, learn new skills and compete in Track and Field events so that they have some experience as they enter High School. Events include:
- Running events: sprints, mid and distance from 100 M run to 1 mile, relays
- Long Jump
- High Jump
- Throwing: Discus, Javelin and/or Shot Put
SPECIAL THANKS to Hingham Sports Partnership for supporting the program through a grant to offset our initial startup expenses back in 2021! This truly fits in with the mission of HSP, as they continue to find ways to support Hingham sports.
