Greetings Panther Families.
We are midway through the first quarter, and it's the perfect time for students and parents alike to refocus and stay committed to success! Students, keep up the great work—arriving to school on time, participating in every class, and staying on top of your assignments. Remember, the hard work you put in now will pay off later. Parents, your support is vital! Here are a few ways you can help: regularly check your student’s grades and attendance via PowerSchool, offer assistance or encouragement with homework, and ensure they attend all their classes. Getting involved at school and having meaningful conversations with your student about their day can also make a big difference. Let’s all work together to make this quarter a successful one!
West is the Best!
Saludos Familias Pantera.

The 2024-2025 school year is well underway, and Kristina Sauter's IH Integrated Math class is diving into engaging activities. One class has been working on math problems, collaborating in teams using Quizlet Live to review operations involving negative integers. Proviso Sports & Activities!
Football
On September 7th, the Proviso West football team faced off against their crosstown rivals, Proviso East, in an exciting game. With many students, staff, and alumni in attendance, the Panthers secured a hard-fought victory over the Pirates. The stands were filled with cheering Panthers, showing support for Proviso West, and celebrating the team’s Win.
We encourage all students, parents, and staff to continue showing their support for Proviso West’s sports teams. Your presence not only boosts the morale of our athletes but also promotes school pride and excitement throughout the school and community. Let’s keep showing up and showing out for Proviso West! (The team is led into the stadium by Coaching Staff Lavar Stepter, Jahwan Akui, Bryce Joiner & Mani Bloomingberg)
Golf
In a recent tournament at Fresh Meadows, the Proviso West golf team faced off against Oak Park River Forest High School. The girls' team played phenomenally, outdriving the boys on many occasions, and shooting par on five holes, one of which was a par-five. The performance showcases the team’s potential and sets the stage for a promising season ahead.
The Golf team is led by Paula Struwing- (Girls Head Coach) and Alex Analitis (Boy’s Coach).

Community Service
Beatification
On September 5, the University of Illinois Extension program partnered with several Proviso West clubs to revitalize one of the courtyards at Proviso West. Members of the Seed Club, NROTC, Peace Club, Pride Club, and others participated in the project. Under the guidance of master gardeners from the University of Illinois, students learned about soil conservation and planting techniques. Together, they laid down cardboard to kill weeds, added compost to add nutrients to the soil, and mulched the area in preparation for fall bulb planting. The master gardeners praised the students' hard work, dedication, and teamwork. Students expressed their pride in giving back and creating a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy.
Community Engagement
Proviso West administrators, staff, and students have been actively collaborating with community leaders, elected officials, clergy, sororities, and other organizations to address key issues affecting both the school and the community. Through partnerships and open dialogue, they work together to create positive change, focusing on matters like education, student safety, and community engagement. These collective efforts are helping to strengthen the bonds between the school and the community, ensuring a brighter future for all involved.
