Principal'sReportA Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley MiddleSchool East

A Word From Dr. Clune

Dear PV East Parents and Guardians,

The First Day of School is one week from today! We are excited to have our students returning on Monday, August 28, 2023.

Please note that schedules could be adjusted up to the first day of school as we continue to balance classes.

6th Grade Orientation

There will be a short orientation for incoming 6th graders and their parents on August 24 at 6:30 PM. At that time you will receive pertinent information regarding the upcoming school year and have the opportunity to walk through the 6th grade hallway to view classrooms. You can also practice opening some lockers.

Busing Information

Information will be available in ParentVue on August 21 at noon. Schedules are still being worked on. If you have questions after that day, please direct them to the bus company at 610-489-9110.

ID Cards

Incoming 6th graders and new students will receive a temporary ID card, holder and lanyard. All current 7th and 8th graders need to bring their ID from last year, including the holder and lanyard. New IDs will be distributed after picture day.

Raptor System

Safety is always our top priority. We have upgraded our visitor management system in each building. Visitors will need to scan their ID (driver's license) prior to being granted admittance into any of our schools.

Meet the Teacher Night

Meet the Teacher night will be held on September 14 for grades 6 - 8 starting at 7:00 PM. Parents should have their child's schedule available that evening to be able to attend their child's classes

School Supply Lists

School supply lists and other information for going back to school is located at the PVSD Back To School website below.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact our counseling center or main office. We are here to help.

Sincerely,

Seamus Clune, Ph.D.

New Garden Coming Spring 2024!

Our Green Team and Loss Group are co-sponsoring a certified butterfly garden and wildlife habitat that was designed by Master Gardeners at Penn State Extension. It will be located at the front of the school by the main office and include 3 benches and a picnic table. This garden is yet be named by the students but will be a place to memorialize and honor people and events through a personalized brick pathway that will run through the middle of the garden. You can help us fundraise by purchasing a brick for the pathway.

Please email Dr. Clune directly if you want to sponsor the picnic table ($1,400) or a bench ($800) or be listed as a sponsor ($1000) on the sign.

Nurse's Notes

Required Immunizations

Please make sure that your child has their required immunizations to start school. Our nurse will be reaching out to individual families without their proper paperwork.

Physical & Dental Exams

Sixth grade students require a physical examination and seventh grade students require a dental examination. Exams from July 1, 2022 to the present are acceptable. If your child has had these examinations, please be sure to send a copy to the Nurse's office. Forms are available on the PV website. Your cooperation with this is most appreciated!

Medication

If your child requires medication during the school day, parents must bring the medication to school with the appropriate forms completed by the physician. The forms can be found on the PV website. No medication should be in the student’s possession (pockets, lunch, purse/handbag, or backpack) unless designated by the nurse per state laws.

It is especially important if your child has been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy, seizures or asthma AND requires emergency medication that you supply the nurse with the required medication.

All medications are to be delivered directly to the nurse’s office and kept in the health room unless otherwise designated by the school nurse. Medication may be delivered at the start of the school year.

'Into The Woods' Podcast

Perkiomen Valley School District is the first K-12 Public School in Pennsylvania with an accredited arboretum, and the only K-12 School in the world with two accredited arboretums: Lenape Arboretum and Muhlenberg Woods. They have opened opportunities for students to learn and connect not just with the outdoors, but with the Lenape people who inhabited the area before European settlers displaced them, significantly altering the landscape in the process. In this episode, we speak with two people involved with PV Woods to learn how the arboretums are restoring ecosystems and communities.

TWEEN Talk Group

Tweens, ages 11 to 13, are invited to chat in a fun, informal atmosphere with Erin McMonagle, a guidance counselor at Perkiomen Valley East Middle School - as part of our Julia’s Joy Youth Empowerment Program. We have created a safe group, where they can come relax, unload and learn they are not alone all while meeting new friends. We believe learning Stress Management tips will help youth deal with the pressures they are feeling at this age and into the future!

This group is free thanks to donations, if you would like to make a donation, it is always appreciated, but not necessary!

SAFE2SAY

Our students can submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Program. Tips are typically related to a variety of challenges our students experience or witness, such as bullying, harassment, disrespectful language, safety concerns, etc. When a tip is received, the State (who runs Safe2Say) immediately follows up with building administrators.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

Did you know that the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisit Lifeline?

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.

https://988lifeline.org/current-events/the-lifeline-and-988/

The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
