For the next two months we will be focusing on completing SAT ISAPS in order to hold follow up SAT meetings.

We will not be moving any more SOC students into SAT until all continuing SAT students have their initial meetings. The district requires two meetings be held a year for SAT students. I am available after school 2:50-3:30 everyday for any support needed. Please send me an email if you would like to meet, I will come to you.

Please bring everything you need to complete at least one SAT ISAP. i.e computer, and any data. Please see the graph below. We will all be working in the PLC room and I will be available to answer any questions or review ISAPs.

NOVEMBER SPIRIT ASSEMBLY NOVEMBER SPIRIT ASSEMBLY

Our November Spirit Assembly will recognize students with Perfect Attendance for Quarter 1. Each student will receive a coin for the Book Vending Machine. If you haven’t done so already, please add your students’ names to the spreadsheet linked below before the assembly.

We’ll also be hosting a grade-level cheer competition!

Since schoolwide assemblies are new for many of our students, we need to continue reinforcing appropriate behavior during the event. While we don’t yet have an ideal space with perfect acoustics, we want to make these assemblies enjoyable for everyone.

Please review and communicate these expectations:

  1. Enter the gym quietly and enjoy the music provided by Mr. Weisheit.
  2. When I am speaking, all voices should be off.
  3. Students should watch for my hand signal to know when it’s time to turn voices off and focus.
  4. Students sensitive to loud sounds should wear noise-canceling headphones. If you need a pair, please request one in advance, and we’ll do our best to provide it.

Thank you for helping make this a positive experience for all!

Teachers at each grade level have expressed concern about student handwriting and letter formation this year. Poor handwriting is definitely cause for concern. Handwriting is an important part of orthographic mapping. Students need to make those connections between the way letters sound and the way they look. This is achieved through direct instruction. It's important to initially focus on learning the motor pattern with gross motor movements like air writing with the whole arm, using a continuous stroke. High sensory practice on different materials can be helpful as well. It's important to focus on accuracy with just a few practice letters to correct mistakes before they are practiced incorrectly many times. Ten to 15 minutes of instruction and practice aligned with phonics instruction is a general recommendation. Becoming accurate and fluent with handwriting contributes greatly to becoming more fluent in writing compositions but it also increases students' reading achievement. Here's a quick 2 minute video about why handwriting instruction is important:
