Hallowe'en
Our student leaders helped plan several fun activities for Halloween week!
We decorated for Halloween, we offered a movie at lunch on Oct 31, and teachers were provided in-class activities to do with students on Halloween.
Students were encouraged to wear a costume on Friday, October 31. This year we did a costume contest and judging occurred in the gym at recess. First and second place winners at each grade level received gift card prizes.
Our students also participated in a Halloween Skeleton Scavenger Hunt from Oct 29-31, planned entirely by our student leaders. Skeleton parts were hidden throughout the school. There were Halloween treats for the first 3 classes to reassemble a skeleton.
Adopt-A-Senior Project
Our school will once again be participating in our seniors' project in support of St. Pat's Mercy Home at Christmas. This month, and into December, we will be asking our school community to help us donate some much needed items for the residents. The wishlist of items is attached. Thank you in advance for supporting this project!
Homework Haven is back!
Students are invited to room 215 every Monday during lunch to work on a project, study, catch up on missed work, etc. There will be a teacher available throughout the period to support students from no specific subject areas. Students should bring their lunch with them to eat and use the stairwell by the Science labs for access. Students are expected to bring something to work on quietly. Students who are disruptive and not completing school work will be asked to leave.
Gold for Team NL at the Atlantic Cup Challenge
Two of our talented student-athletes brought home gold medals after an incredible showing at the Atlantic Cup Challenge, one of the most competitive AAA hockey tournaments in Atlantic Canada.
Maddox and his U15 Team NL claimed the Gold Medal, while Zach Nwokedi and his U14 Team NL also struck Gold, marking an outstanding performance for Newfoundland and Labrador in both divisions.
Their dedication and hard work on the ice represent our school and province with pride. Balancing academics and athletics is no small feat, and we recognize the commitment it takes to compete at this level, especially with the time they miss from school while traveling for games and tournaments.
We’re incredibly proud of Maddox, Zach, and all the teachers and families who support our student-athletes in reaching their goals. Congratulations, Team NL!
Grizzlies Blast Off to the Planetarium!
As part of their exploration of the Space Science curriculum, our Grade 9 PASS students and their families spent an evening visiting the Planetarium at the Marine Institute, where learning truly reached new heights, or rather, new orbits!
The visit provided students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of key concepts such as the The Milky Way, celestial navigation, other galaxies seen from the Hubble Space Telescope and heliocentrism. Member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Garry Dymond, introduced students to real-world applications of the material they have been learning in class. Garry, who also has an asteroid named after him in recognition of his contributions to promoting space education, emailed to say he “totally enjoyed the group tonight” and that he “enjoyed their questions”. The evening experience was more than just a field trip; it was a journey through the universe that brought their science studies vividly to life.
