The Deer Valley Unified School District is committed to providing the best possible educational environment for every student. As part of this commitment, the District’s Long Range Planning Committee has met regularly to review enrollment trends, school capacities, and community data, with the goal of ensuring that all schools are appropriately utilized and able to best support student learning.

Through this process, the Committee developed recommendations for potential boundary adjustments for the 2026–27 school year. These proposed changes primarily impacted 12 elementary and middle school attendance areas.

The Committee presented its recommendations to the DVUSD Governing Board on February 17 (watch meeting here). At its March 10 meeting, the Governing Board voted not to approve the recommendations for the next school year (watch meeting here). As a result, there will be no changes to DVUSD school boundaries for the 2026–27 school year.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and partnership throughout this process. Ensuring balanced enrollment across our schools remains an important priority as we continue working to provide high-quality learning environments for all students, both now and in the future.

DVUSD is committed to ensuring our grading practices are clear and effective, and we want to hear from you! Please use the links below to provide your input on our K–8 and/or high school grading systems. The surveys close on April 30, 2026.

Public school districts participate in multiple reporting activities each year designed to monitor fiscal compliance and effectiveness. Two of those were recently highlighted at board meetings. At the March 24, 2026, Board Meeting, the Fiscal & Business Services (FBS) Department presented the FY2025 Single Audit Report and Compliance Questionnaire. The annual audit is required to be conducted by a third-party contracted firm every year. At the April 7, 2026, Board Meeting, FBS presented the FY2025 District Spending Report released from the Arizona Auditor General's Office in March. This report compares district spending to other similar districts. District financial reports can also be accessed at Budget 411.

Congratulations to principal Ray Utter, and the students and staff at Deer Valley Middle School on earning the Arizona Department of Education Copper Apple Award for consistent improvement in student achievement.

Since Mr. Utter's arrival at DVMS in 2023, the school has rebounded from a 'D' grade to coming within a fraction of a percentage point of a 'B' for the 2024-25 assessment. Good luck to all the DVMS students and staff as the school continues to strive to improve this school year and beyond!

For the past 12 years, the Deer Valley Education Foundation (DVEF) has funded the reading competition, Battle of the Books, for 5th and 6th grade students across DVUSD. In teams of two or three, students from schools throughout the district tested their knowledge in three exciting school competitions. Four books are pre-selected for the three competitions during the year, which means students read and answer questions from a total of 12 books outside their regular school work!

The level of readers competing in Battle of the Books ranges from students who read below grade level to those in gifted programs. The Battle of the Books program aims to improve reading comprehension, build vocabulary, teach teamwork, and promote good sportsmanship.

This year the the Legend Springs Elementary "Booking.com" team was crowned battle of the books champions!

Our finalist teams battled in a 3-team tie for the win, runner-up, and third place! Following closely behind Legend Springs was the "K.E.E.'s to Victory" team from Anthem School, and in 3rd place, the "Desert Readers" of Desert Sage Elementary School.

Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to all students, literary specialists, and volunteers who participated this year!

At the beginning of each school year, a local educational agency that receives funds under this part shall notify the parents of each student attending any school receiving funds under this part that the parents may request, and the local educational agency will provide the parents on request (and in a timely manner), information regarding any State or local educational agency policy regarding student participation in any assessments mandated by section 1111(b)(2) and by the State or local educational agency, which shall include a policy, procedure, or parental right to opt the child out of such assessment, where applicable.

However, Arizona State Law states that parents do not have the right to opt out of assessments.

The District-level policy/procedure shall provide an understanding of the joint responsibility of the District and parents/guardians to improve students' academic achievement and school performance.

To that end, the District provides opportunities for parents/guardians involvement at the District level and the District involves parents/guardians in the joint development of the District's plan to help low-achieving children meet challenging achievement and academic standards (20 U.S.C 6312), and the process of school review and improvement (20 U.S.C. 6316).
