Golden Hills Mission:
Letter from the Principal
Golden Hills Families,
Welcome Back!
We hope you all enjoyed your October Intersession! Our fifth graders especially deserved a little rest after their incredible adventure at Shady Creek. It was truly a memorable experience filled with learning, teamwork, and outdoor fun! A huge thank you to our parents who volunteered at Shady Creek!
Golden Hills Homework: ➕ Math Practice at Home
Would you like a fun way for your student to practice math facts at home? Students can log in to Reflex Math from any device — it’s a great way to build fluency and confidence!
You can also help by practicing together:
Use flash cards (available at the Dollar Store!)
Quiz your student on multiplication facts while driving
Make it a quick and fun daily challenge
Knowing math facts makes a big difference in students’ confidence and success across all areas of math! Students will earn brag tags for becoming math masters!
🏅 Math Masters & 144 Club
Students are working toward becoming Math Masters and 144 Club Members!
Math Masters: Know all math facts through 10s

Counselor’s Message
This is a very busy time of the year! Ms. Taylor and I have already taught lessons on why emotions are important, how to use the Mood Meter to identify how we are feeling, and how to be our “Best Self”. These lessons are in an effort to help support our students in emotional intelligence. RULER lessons give us tools to better understand why we have emotions, how to express and deal with our emotions in a constructive manner and also how to interact with others in a respectful and responsible way.
The Wellness Center is up and running! All of our students were introduced to the Wellness Center the first week of school. We have a reset space and students can come use that space if needed or speak with the School Counselor or Wellness Coach if they need to talk or get some help. Ms. Taylor just started social clubs (Lunch Bunches and Breakfast Clubs). Counseling small groups are starting with Mrs. Rainbow this week on topics that include but are not limited to ADHD, grief, social skills and self-esteem. Mrs. Rainbow runs a student advisory club on Thursdays. We have lots of students on Team Trackers. Team Trackers are an intervention that provides a daily behavior progress monitoring report card and opportunities for students to get frequent feedback. Students on trackers check in with a positive adult in the morning and out at the end of the day regarding their progress.
Every six weeks we survey students on how connected and supported they are feeling at Golden Hills. Ms. Taylor and I check in with students who are scoring low or who are requesting to talk with an adult to see how we can better support them.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out at (530) 532-6000 ext 4601 email rwalker@palermok8.org
Sincerely,
Rainbow Walker

📞 Reporting Absences
If your child is absent, please call the school office to share the reason so we can determine if it can be excused.
If your child will miss school, you can also request independent study — your child will receive work to complete, and once it’s turned in, they’ll receive credit for attendance and will not be marked absent.
🌟 Upcoming Attendance Incentives
November 21st: Students who have missed fewer than 6 total days (excused or unexcused) this school year will attend a special Laser Show Assembly!
November 20–December 20: Students maintaining 95% attendance during this time will earn a ticket to our Winter Wonderland Rally! ❄️
💛 Why Attendance Matters
Coming to school every day helps children build strong relationships, stay engaged, and succeed academically. Even missing just one or two days every few weeks can add up and make it harder to keep up in class.
Thank you for making attendance a priority — your partnership makes a big difference!
