As we continue to prepare for the upcoming leadership transition in our district, we are pleased to share that Crystal Palser will serve as Interim Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment beginning July 1 for the 2026-27 school year.

This is part of our broader transition as Dr. Knight steps into the role of Interim Superintendent, and reflects our commitment to strong, steady leadership across Gering Public Schools.

Crystal has been a dedicated member of Gering Public Schools since 2008. She currently serves as an assistant principal at Gering High School and has previously served our district as both a teacher and counselor at Gering Middle School. Her experience spanning classroom instruction, student services, and school leadership provides her with a comprehensive understanding of both student needs and staff support, preparing her well to lead during this transition.

In addition to her primary roles, Crystal has consistently stepped into leadership opportunities that support both students and staff. She currently serves as a safety team leader, high school MTSS/PBIS team leader, and a member of the district CIP team, reflecting her commitment to systems that strengthen student success and school culture.

As Crystal transitions into this role at the district office, Gering High School will be working through next steps to ensure continued administrative coverage and support for students and staff.

May Meeting Recap

At the May 13th Gering Board of Education meeting, the board celebrated an incredible season of student achievement, recognizing accomplishments from DECA, HOSA, FFA, Speech, and FCCLA students. The Board also honored GHS senior Trinity Hedman for being named a candidate in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation’s highest honors for graduating seniors.

The Board of Education also took action on the following items:

  • Approved a 3.78% salary increase for administrators and classified staff, effective July 1
  • Approved updates to the Administrator employee handbook for the 2026–2028 school years
  • Approved a resolution to issue Qualified Capital Undertaking Fund Pledge Bonds to support the district’s track replacement project.
    • The track replacement project will be funded through existing funding and does not require an increase to the tax levy rate.
    • Andy Forney of D.A. Davidson was present at the meeting to provide information and answer questions regarding the resolution and financing of the track project.

Auditorium

The auditorium renovation continues to move forward. The new production booth framing is complete, marking another step in the project’s progress. Lighting approved at the April Board meeting is currently on order, with an estimated six-week lead time before installation.

At this point in the project timeline, the district continues to anticipate a fall reopening of the auditorium.

GHS Track

We know this track season has been full of pivots, adjustments, and flexibility from our athletes, coaches, families, and fans … and we can’t thank you enough for rolling with it all.

We're happy to report there's now a bit of activity at Gering High School as site work gets underway to prepare for demolition and construction for our full track replacement project this summer/fall.

And a little fun sneak peek ... let’s just say, by the time this project is finished, there won’t be any question what color "runs" through Gering Bulldog country. 🔵🔵🔵
