June Is... June Is...

Pride Month

Pride Month is observed annually in June to celebrate the dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) individuals. This month commemorates the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969 and are widely considered a catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Pride Month is a time to reflect on the struggles and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community and to continue the fight against discrimination and injustice. LGBTQ+ Pride Month is not only a celebration of love, identity, and acceptance but also an opportunity to raise awareness about the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community and to advocate for full equality and inclusion in all aspects of life.

Cartwheel Webinar

While end-of-school and summer fun bring excitement for many, students of all ages can still struggle and sometimes significantly during the summer months. Summer can also be especially stressful for parents and guardians as they juggle work and caregiving.

Join Carthweel, a partner of NSSD112, as they host a webinar focused on anxiety, mood changes, and different areas of challenge that students and families can experience during the months away from school. They will discuss practical tips and strategies to support kids and teens during the summer months, and how you can help them be ready for the transition back to the classroom.

Middle School Webinar with Dr. Lubelfeld

In May, Dr. Lubelfeld hosted a webinar for middle school students and parents/guardians. The goal was to share results from a recent survey conducted among middle school students that asked the question, "In your opinion, how can we do a better job of ensuring every student feels like they belong and that they are respected in District 112? Do you have questions or ideas that your teachers or principals need to know?"

Safety and Security Safety and Security

Message from Solvei Jurmu, Director of Safety and Security

Kids today are growing up in an age where technology is a routine part of their lives, even in kindergarten. The internet is full of tremendous opportunities to enhance their education, but if children don’t learn how to properly navigate and communicate in this digital age, they can be walking into trouble.

Across North Shore School District 112, Deerfield Public Schools District 109 and Bannockburn School District 106, the three districts I serve, there is a real emphasis placed on teaching students how to become digital citizens and equipping families with the skills and knowledge to monitor what their child is doing on a computer or smartphone and to have tough conversations about the appropriateness of content when necessary.

On our website, we have a library of resources for you to consider if you have a school-age child in your life.
