BULLDOGBULLETINFebruary 7, 2025

Dear Bulldog Families,

I hope this letter finds you well! As we are now well into February, I want to take a moment to celebrate our students, staff, and families for making this winter season a great one despite the chilly weather. Our students have shown incredible flexibility with indoor recess, and we appreciate their positive attitudes and resilience! We're certainly looking forward to warmer days ahead!

A huge thank you to our amazing PTO for organizing our CandyLand Bingo Night—what a fantastic event! It was wonderful to see so many families come together for a night of fun and connection. Your support and participation made it a truly special evening, and we are so grateful for everyone who helped make it a success.

Looking ahead, we have more exciting PTO events coming up this month—please see the details below! We are also looking forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day next week with class parties. These celebrations are a great opportunity for our students to enjoy time with their classmates and spread kindness throughout our school.

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership. Stay warm, and we look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

Warm regards,

Dr. Colleen Conway

Student Spotlight! Student Spotlight!

Kudos to our students who wanted to share current events and academic updates with our Bulldog Community! Here is a 5th grade spotlight:

Hi, My name is Saxon. I'm half Chinese and today I’m going to explain what the Chinese New Year is.

Chinese New Year is a holiday that Asian people celebrate to signify the beginning of a new lunar year. This holiday is 15 days long. Every year is represented by a different animal of the Chinese zodiac. The animals of the Chinese zodiac are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat (or Sheep), Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and the Pig. These animals are in the order that they are celebrated in. This year is the year of the snake. The last year of the snake was in 2013. People born in the year of the snake have traits such as being wise, determined, and calm.

Chinese people have many traditions during the new year. For example, decorating your house with red banners and lanterns. On the first day of the new year elders will give children red envelops with money to symbolize good luck in the new year. People also set off fireworks and firecrackers to scare evil spirts away. The tradition that I enjoy the most is having a big feast with my family. Some traditional foods that we enjoy are dumplings, spring rolls, fish, hot pot, and longevity noodles.

The Chinese New Year is all about celebrating with family and wishing good fortune and health to our loved ones and friends. The Chinese New Year is also called the Spring Festival because it marks the beginning of the harvest season. To wish somebody a happy Chinese New Year you can say “xīn nián hǎo”. Happy New year everybody!

3rd grade spotlight:

We are learning about how the environment affects plant and animal traits. One example we learned about is the flamingo. Flamingos are affected by what they eat. When flamingos eat small fish, they stay gray, but when they eat shrimp, they turn pink. The environment can affect people too, just like animals. Some things we learn from our environment are how to read, talk, and walk. In science, we are trying to change the trait of color in a piece of celery. We hope that the celery will change its color in the science experiment. This is what third grade is learning in science. Stay tuned for more third-grade news!

Safety Reminder

We kindly remind all parents and caregivers to please drive carefully and follow speed limits on school property and in the surrounding neighborhood. Many of our students walk, ride bikes, or use scooters to get to and from school, and their safety is our top priority.

Please be mindful of crosswalks, follow posted speed limits, and avoid distractions such as cell phones while driving. This is especially important during busy times before and after school. Together, we can ensure that everyone gets to school and home safely.
