Dear Parents and Guardians

Holy Week begins this coming Sunday with Palm Sunday, marking one of the most sacred and meaningful periods in the Christian calendar. This week invites believers and communities around the world to pause, reflect, and journey through the final days of Jesus Christ’s life—culminating in the hope and joy of Easter Sunday.

Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where crowds welcomed Him with palm branches and shouts of praise. It is a moment filled with celebration, yet it also signals the beginning of a profound and sobering journey. The same voices that cried “Hosanna” would soon turn, reminding us of the fragile and complex nature of human faith and loyalty.

As Holy Week unfolds, each day carries deep spiritual significance. From the cleansing of the temple to the teachings shared in Jesus’ final days, believers are called to reflect on themes of humility, service, and devotion. Maundy Thursday recalls the Last Supper, where Jesus demonstrated servant leadership by washing His disciples’ feet and instituted the act of communion. Good Friday follows as a solemn day of remembrance, honouring the sacrifice of the crucifixion—a powerful expression of love, forgiveness, and redemption.

The week reaches its climax on Easter Sunday, a day of celebration that proclaims the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a message of hope that transcends sorrow—a reminder that light overcomes darkness, and life triumphs over death. For Christians, Easter is not just the end of Holy Week, but the foundation of faith itself.

The importance of Holy Week lies not only in its historical and theological meaning, but also in its personal invitation. It calls individuals to reflect on their own lives, to renew their faith, and to embrace the values of compassion, sacrifice, and hope. Whether through prayer, attending services, or quiet contemplation, this week offers a sacred opportunity to reconnect with what truly matters.

As we enter this Holy Week, beginning with Palm Sunday and moving toward the joy of Easter, may it be a time of deep reflection and renewed purpose. In walking this journey, we are reminded that even in the face of hardship and uncertainty, hope is never lost—and new life is always possible.

Please join us on Thursday for a Holy Week assembly presented by our Year 5 class, commencing at 9:00 am.

YEAR 6 CAMP

On Wednesday to Friday, this week, the Year 6 class enjoyed an exciting and memorable camp at Ern Halliday, filled with fun, laughter, and a wide range of engaging activities. Set in a beautiful coastal location, the camp provided the perfect opportunity for students to bond, challenge themselves, and create lasting memories with their classmates.

One of the highlights of the camp was the time spent at the beach. With the sun shining, (well... a little bit in-between the clouds), and the ocean nearby, students embraced the chance to explore the outdoors and enjoy the natural surroundings. A standout activity was the sandcastle-making competition, where groups worked together to design and build creative and impressive structures. Armed with buckets, spades, and plenty of imagination, the students demonstrated teamwork, problem-solving, and a healthy sense of competition.

Throughout the camp, students participated in a variety of activities (my favourite… the flying fox), that encouraged cooperation, resilience, and confidence. Whether working together in teams or supporting one another through challenges, they showed great enthusiasm and positivity. These shared experiences helped to strengthen friendships and build a strong sense of community within the group.

In the evenings, students had time to relax, reflect, and enjoy each other’s company, sharing stories and laughter from the day’s adventures. These quieter moments were just as valuable, allowing everyone to connect and appreciate the experience together.

Overall, the Year 6 camp at Ern Halliday was a fantastic success. It offered students the chance to step outside the classroom, try new things, and grow both socially and personally. The memories made during this special time will no doubt stay with them for years to come.

I would like to thank, Ms Cameron who organised and planned the camp for us all. Kate, another outstanding effort! To our recent retired Mrs Armstrong and to Mrs Thomas and to Mr Curkoski (Ski) and Mr Caddy, thank you all for your time spent on camp looking after our students and being away from family. Your efforts are truly appreciated!

God bless

Dear Parents and Guardians

As we approach the end of term, we take a moment to reflect on what has been a wonderfully busy and enriching few weeks at Emmaus. Our calendar has been filled with engaging learning experiences, assessments, and many joyful community events.

As we move towards the Easter holiday break, we feel especially proud of the way our students have embraced opportunities for outreach and community care. Following the success of our Memory Café in Week 6, students from Kindy to Year 6 enthusiastically participated in our Harmony Day celebrations, recognising and celebrating the rich diversity within our school community.

A particular highlight was the Project Compassion Water Walk held last Monday. While students enjoyed working together in a relay to carry buckets of water across the oval, it also provided a powerful moment of reflection. Students considered the reality that many children around the world walk kilometres each day to collect water—often before even beginning their school day.

The purpose of the Caritas Water Walk is to raise funds to support communities in need, helping to provide access to clean water through wells and water tanks. We kindly invite our Emmaus families to support this important cause. Donations can be placed in an envelope and dropped into the collection box at the front office.

In the spirit of giving to those in need, we also remind our Emmaus families about our Easter chocolate donations for Foodbank. These Easter treats can be brought to your child’s class teacher or the front office and will be generously passed on to support underprivileged children in our community this Easter.

As we look ahead to the end of term, we also encourage families to return any Easter Raffle tickets. Purchased tickets, along with payment, can be returned to the school office by Tuesday 31 March. The raffle will be drawn at our final assembly on Thursday 2 April, with some wonderful prizes to be won.

We wish you a wonderful Easter filled with special family time.

In gratitude

By now, all parents from Pre-Primary to Year 6 should have received information from their child’s class teacher regarding the Week 9 Parent–Teacher Interviews, including instructions on how to book a meeting time.

These interviews form an important part of our reporting process and provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s learning and progress. We kindly ask that all families make themselves available for an interview on one of the following days:

  • Monday 30 March

  • Tuesday 31 March

  • Wednesday 1 April

Please contact your child's teacher if you need a reminder of how to make a booking.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

We ask parents to be vigilant in ensuring that their child is not using or climbing on any play items before school starts or after the home time bell (even if parents are supervising).

EMMAUS HAS JOINED THE 'REAL SCHOOLS' NETWORK! EMMAUS HAS JOINED THE 'REAL SCHOOLS' NETWORK!

We are excited to share that Emmaus Catholic Primary School has begun a partnership with Real Schools, joining a growing network of schools committed to strengthening positive school culture through restorative practices.

This partnership is a long-term, whole-school approach focused on building strong, respectful relationships and a sense of belonging for all students. Through what is known as Restorative Practices 2.0, staff are supported to use consistent language, actions and mindsets that promote responsibility, repair harm when things go wrong, and strengthen trust across our community. Rather than being a one-off program, this is a three-year journey where expert facilitators work alongside our staff, providing professional learning, coaching and practical strategies to embed a positive, relational culture throughout the school.

At its heart, this initiative is about ensuring every child feels safe, valued and heard, while equipping them with the skills to manage relationships, resolve conflict and grow as responsible members of our community.

Click on the links below to hear from our Expert Facilitator (Merrilee Wright) and read a brief outline of the key elements of this approach.

YEAR 6 CAMP - A THREE-DAY ADVENTURE TO REMEMBER! YEAR 6 CAMP - A THREE-DAY ADVENTURE TO REMEMBER!

From March 25–27, 2026, our Year 6 students set off for an unforgettable camp experience at Ern Halliday Recreation Camp in Sorrento. Over three action‑packed days, students challenged themselves, supported one another, and created memories that will carry them well into their final year of primary school.

Our staff team; Mr Coniglio, Ms Cameron, Mr Curkoski, Mrs Thomas, and Mrs Armstrong (who we were delighted to pull out of retirement for the occasion!) guided students through every moment. We were also joined by Mr Caddy for part of the camp, adding to the fun and energy as expected.

Students threw themselves into a huge range of activities designed to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience. Highlights included:

  • Ultimate Sports – fast‑paced fun that got everyone moving
  • Big Swing – a thrilling challenge that pushed students to new heights
  • Team Building – working together to solve problems and support one another
  • Escape the Night – a favourite evening challenge full of excitement
  • Orienteering – navigating the grounds with teamwork and determination
  • Surf Life Saving – learning vital beach safety skills
  • Beach Team Building – sun, sand, and plenty of laughter
  • Archery – testing focus and precision
  • Flying Fox – soaring through the air with courage and big smiles
  • Movie Night – a cosy celebration to mark Zooey’s birthday on Thursday

Across the three days, students showed remarkable enthusiasm, kindness, and perseverance. Whether they were cheering on a classmate at the Big Swing or working together during orienteering, their teamwork was something to be proud of.

We are incredibly grateful to the staff for giving their time and energy, and to our students for embracing every challenge with such positivity.

  • Do you have a child who is due to enter Pre-Kindergarten (3K) or Kindergarten (4K) in 2027?

  • Have you lodged an Application for Admission form yet?

Interviews for 2027 places will be held during May and June so applications should be submitted before the end of April.

We have received a large number of applications already for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten for next year so late applications may potentially mean missing out on a place.

LATE PICK UP - CALLS TO THE OFFICE LATE PICK UP - CALLS TO THE OFFICE

From time to time parents may be running late to collect their child after school. Note that there is no need to call the office to inform if parents are 10 minutes late. In aim of reducing the influx of phone calls to the office just before bell time (when the office is incredibly busy with parent enquiries, etc), notification is only required for late pick-ups 15 + minutes after the bell. Thanks for your understanding.

EMOTIONAL REGULATION - KIMOCHIS

This term, our whole‑school wellbeing focus is Emotional Regulation, the ability to understand, express, and manage our feelings in healthy and helpful ways. In our early childhood classes, students learn these skills through the Kimochis program, a playful, character‑based approach that helps children recognise emotions, build empathy, and practise positive interactions.

Each Kimochis character brings a unique personality and set of feelings that children can relate to. Here’s a little introduction to the characters we’re exploring:

Lovey Dove

Gentle, nurturing, and calm, Lovey Dove helps children understand kindness, empathy, and caring for others. She models soft, warm communication and reminds students how comforting it feels to be supported.

Cat

Confident and sometimes a little bossy, Cat teaches children about leadership, fairness, and navigating tricky social moments. With Cat, students learn how to express strong feelings respectfully and repair relationships when things go wrong.

Huggtopus

Affectionate, enthusiastic, and full of energy, Huggtopus represents big feelings, especially excitement and love. She helps children learn about personal space, self‑control, and how to manage emotions that can sometimes feel “too big.”

Bug

Shy, thoughtful, and sensitive, Bug supports children in understanding worry, nervousness, and the courage it takes to try new things. Bug’s gentle nature encourages students to be patient with themselves and others.

Cloud

Cloud experiences emotions that can change quickly, sunny one moment, stormy the next. Cloud helps children recognise shifting feelings and practise strategies to calm, reset, and communicate when they’re upset.

RECONCILIATION WORKSHOP RECONCILIATION WORKSHOP

Last week, our Year 3 students, alongside their parents, attended a Reconciliation workshop at St Helena of the Holy Cross Parish Centre. During this special session, we explored the meaning of reconciliation and discussed its importance within family life and in developing our relationship with God.

Students and families engaged in meaningful conversations about the key elements of Reconciliation, learning that it involves saying sorry, showing forgiveness, and making amends to rebuild relationships.

As part of the workshop, we created paper chains to represent how our families are connected. We also reflected on the actions that strengthen these connections, such as treating one another with kindness, interacting positively, and showing love and respect.

This was a meaningful experience for our Year 3s as they continue to prepare to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

ANNUNCIATION OF MARY LITURGY ANNUNCIATION OF MARY LITURGY

On Wednesday 25 March, the school joined together for a beautiful liturgy facilitated by the Year 4 class for the Feast of the Annunciation of Mary.

The Feast of the Annunciation is when we remember the moment the angel Gabriel came to Mary with a very important message from God.

The angel told Mary that she had been chosen to be the mother of Jesus. Even though this was surprising and a little scary, Mary trusted God and said “yes.”

This feast reminds us that:

  • God has a plan for each of us

  • Saying “yes” to God can take courage

  • Mary is a great example of trust, faith, and bravery

Thank you to Mr Caddy, Mrs Cornish, Mrs Fanderlinden and the Year 4 class for preparation of this service.

LEADING INTO HOLY WEEK... LEADING INTO HOLY WEEK...

As we journey through the season of Lent, we begin to prepare for Holy Week, the most important time in the Church’s calendar. Holy Week tells the story of Jesus’ final days on earth and invites us to reflect on His love, sacrifice and hope.

🌿 Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ joyful arrival into Jerusalem. People welcomed Him by waving palm branches and praising Him as their king.

However, this day also reminds us how quickly things changed, as the same crowd would soon turn against Him. It is a day of both celebration and reflection.

🍞 Holy Thursday

On Holy Thursday, we remember the Last Supper, where Jesus shared a special meal with His disciples. During this meal, Jesus gave us the gift of the Eucharist and showed the importance of love and service by washing His disciples’ feet.

This day reminds us to care for others with humility and kindness.

✝️ Good Friday

Good Friday is a solemn day when we remember Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross. It is a time for quiet reflection, prayer and gratitude for the great love Jesus showed in giving His life for us.

🙏 Holy Week Assembly Invitation

We warmly invite all parents to join our school community for our Holy Week Assembly, presented by our Year 5 students.

🗓 Thursday 2 April

🕘 9:00 am

This special assembly will bring the story of Holy Week to life and provide a meaningful opportunity for us to gather in prayer and reflection as we prepare for Easter.

We look forward to sharing this important time in our faith journey with you.

To celebrate the end of NAPLAN, the Year 5 class came down to Pre-Primary Blue to meet their buddies. The Pre-Primaries enjoyed showing the Year 5s their favourite things to do in the playground. The Year 5s and Pre-Primaries also worked together to make some lovely orange crowns for Harmony Day. Everyone had a great time, even if the Year 5s were pretty exhausted after trying to keep up with the energy of the Pre-Primaries.

FUN TIMES IN KINDY FUN TIMES IN KINDY

In Kindy, we have enjoyed exploring our senses and experimenting with different herbs as we create amazing dishes with our friends.

Easter is a special time and we have been learning about the Easter story. We read the story of Palm Sunday and how happy people were to see Jesus. They waved their palms and shouted - “Hosanna, Hosanna to the King.” We used our handprints to create palm leaves.
