You Belong Here!
September is Attendance Awareness Month

School is where students find FRIENDSHIPS, BELONGING, OPPORTUNITIES, and SUCCESS
Students who attend school regularly...
- Are 1.7 times more likely to master content in subjects like reading and math
- Are 2.5 times more likely to graduate
- Demonstrate better interpersonal skills
- Report less school-related stress, greater motivation, and higher levels of school belonging
Every day counts...
- Research indicates that from kindergarten to fifth grade, just one day of missed school equals 2.5 days of lost math learning and 1.5 days of lost literacy learning
- Schools with high attendance rates tend to have lower rates of disciplinary issues
- Students who miss less than 9 days a year are more likely to achieve higher academic success
Review WCPS attendance requirements
WCPS Student Attendance Regulation JE-R
How you can help...
- Develop routines: regular bedtime & leaving early to arrive at school on time
- Talk with your student about the importance of daily attendance and how it helps their learning
- Ask your student about their school day
- Only let your student stay home if they are genuinely sick
- Monitor student attendance and academic progress on ParentVUE
- Make every effort to schedule doctor, dentist and other appointments after school hours
- Plan family trips when school is not in session
Need assistance...
If you need help getting your student to attend school regularly, please contact their school.
