Winter Weather Reminder

As winter settles in, we want to make sure all students are ready for outdoor activities. Please send your child to school prepared for the cold. This includes:

  • Hat

  • Gloves or mittens

  • Winter coat

  • Snow boots

  • Snow pants

If getting any of these items is difficult right now, just reach out and we can support your student. We are here to help and can assist in getting what they need to stay warm and comfortable.

Thank you for helping us keep all students safe and prepared this winter!

Secondary Redesign - Redefining Education in Grades 6-12

Between May and July of 2023, MAPS gathered feedback from students, families, staff, and community members to guide future-focused planning. This fall, MAPS launched three new elementary focus schools at Rosa Parks for STEAM, Jefferson for Outdoor and Nature-Based, and Bridges for Global Studies. With these schools off to strong starts, the school district has now focused on redesigning middle and high school learning experiences.

Feedback from secondary students, families, staff, and community partners points to a need for more flexibility, hands-on and real-world learning, stronger collaboration, and individualized support. Families want experiences that reflect their students’ future interests, and staff emphasize innovation, partnerships, and stronger connections with the community.

Preparing students for their future remains central to the MAPS vision. National research shows that flexible learning, clear pathways, and real-world experiences build confidence and future-ready skills. Throughout 2024 and 2025, MAPS gathered additional input, and recent School Board discussions highlighted themes that include student voice, relevance, flexibility, strong staff support, and deeper partnerships with caregivers, employers, and community organizations.

This school year, MAPS staff including principals, directors, and teachers have visited, toured, and questioned practices in many settings as they continue to discern how to take our middle and high schools to the next level. What we know for sure is that one size fits all education needs to end. Our leaders are making strong progress in crafting plans that will be shared with the greater school community soon after the Winter break.

Our goal is to help parents feel informed and confident about the steps we take every day to protect our school community. Thank you for taking a moment to watch and stay connected with us.

Early Childhood Screening

Early Childhood Screening is required before your child can start kindergarten. This free screening is an important step in supporting your child’s readiness for school. It helps identify strengths and areas where your child may need support in development, vision, hearing, and overall health—giving families and schools valuable information to ensure a strong start in kindergarten.
If your child has not yet been screened, please visit https://mapsisd77ecs.youcanbook.me/ to book an appointment. For additional questions about Early Childhood Screenings, please call (507) 625-4620.

Community Spotlight: Thank You, Oak Terrace Senior Living

Your generous donation of two wheelchairs, a walker, and a cane to Mankato Area Public Schools is already making a meaningful impact. Our students, staff, and administration are incredibly grateful for your partnership and your commitment to supporting the next generation of caregivers in our community.

In the photo, you can see the nursing lab at Mankato East High School. Last week, students were able to practice transferring and ambulating skills using the new equipment from Oak Terrace—giving them hands-on experience that builds confidence and prepares them for future healthcare careers.

Thank you again for your ongoing support and continued partnership with Mankato Area Public Schools.
