Superintendent's Update - 4.17.2026
Dear CPS Community,
April vacation is upon us and, as a reminder, schools are closed from Monday, April 20, through Friday, April 24. Although there is no school next week, it is important to note that Monday is Patriots’ Day, an annual holiday that commemorates the first battles of the American Revolution. In addition, this year marks the 130th running of the Boston Marathon, featuring over 30,000 athletes representing more than 100 countries. You can find more information about the race and events on the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) website.
Our annual Career Exploration Breakfast was held at Chelmsford High School on Tuesday morning, providing juniors with the opportunity to visit with professionals in various fields, including emergency services and law enforcement, outreach counseling, physical therapy, forensic science, elementary education, banking, funeral direction and more. The students were able to ask questions and gain some insight into careers they may see themselves having one day. A huge thank you goes out to Career and College Readiness Facilitator Gabby DaSilva for organizing this wonderful event. Thanks also to the more than 50 professionals who graciously donated their time to be here on Tuesday!
I would also like to extend my appreciation to the men and women of the Chelmsford Police and Fire Departments who spent their Thursday evening at McCarthy Middle School playing charity basketball with the Parker Middle School Best Buddies. The game was a fun time for everyone involved, especially the buddies, who had the time of their lives. This was the second annual Buddies vs. Badges event, and it just keeps getting better!
The Center Elementary and McCarthy Middle School PTOs will be holding their annual E-Waste & Junk Recycle Day on Saturday, May 2, at the Central Administration Offices, 230 North Road, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. If you’re planning some spring cleaning over April Vacation, this will be a great opportunity to dispose of any unwanted or unused electronics, small appliances and other household items. Please see the flyer included in this newsletter for more details about what items will and will not be accepted during this event.
Don’t forget, we will be holding another kindergarten registration day for families who have an incoming kindergarten student for the 2026-27 school year on Thursday, April 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you were unable to attend the first two registration days in January, please be sure to sign up for an appointment. Also, if you know any friends, neighbors or colleagues who plan to send their child to kindergarten in our district this fall, please share this information with them. For more information about registration and contact information, please visit our website.
I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing vacation week, and we’ll see you all on April 27!
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.

Over the past five months, the project team has hosted four community forums regarding the school building project. Chelmsford Telemedia recorded all of these events and have made them available to view here:
