Longfellow Middle School
Greetings Longfellow Families,
Daycal Was a Success!
Daycal was a success this week! Students enjoyed having some downtime, relaxing, and spending time connecting with friends. It was wonderful to see students taking a break from their busy schedules and enjoying time together. Brain breaks are an important part of helping students recharge, build relationships, and return to learning feeling refreshed. We look forward to finding more opportunities to provide students with these experiences throughout the school year!
Congratulations to Our Milwaukee Brewers!
What an exciting time for Milwaukee! Congratulations to our Milwaukee Brewers on this incredible accomplishment! Our city has so much to celebrate, and we hope our students and families enjoy being part of this special moment. In celebration, there is no school tomorrow, Friday, October 30th. We hope you have the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, enjoy the festivities, and join in the excitement of the parade!
Enjoy the day off, celebrate safely, and make wonderful memories with those you love. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday, November 2nd!

Soar With Success: The Oriole Expectation?
Lock it in Longfellow!
At Longfellow, we are committed to building a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment through our school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) framework. Every day, we explicitly teach and reinforce expectations that help our students "Lock it in" which looks like staying focused, taking ownership of their actions, and helping our school run smoothly.
To help align our conversations between school and home, here is a look at the common language we are using with students and two key behavioral trends we are working together to strengthen:
1. Protect the Learning Time: "Take the Direct Route"
The Trend: We are noticing an uptick in students taking "scenic detours" as observed by wandering through hallway wings or hanging out on floors nowhere near their scheduled classes. This extra wandering leads to mid-day tardiness and disrupts other classrooms already hard at work.
Our Common Language: We are reminding students to "Take the Direct Route." This means using the stairwell closest to their destination, staying in their designated grade level areas, and heading straight to class so they can lock in their learning time.
How You Can Help at Home: Ask your child, "How do you plan your route during passing periods?" or remind them, "Make sure you take the direct route so you’re in your seat before the bell rings!" And remember, you can see your student's tardies through Infinite Campus!
2. Respectful Responsibility: "First-Time Compliance"
The Trend: When staff give routine directions in the hallways, cafeteria, or classrooms, we are focusing on helping students respond promptly and politely without needing multiple reminders or debating the request.
Our Common Language: We are coaching students on "First-Time Compliance." We teach that listening and following directions the first time is a key way to show respect for our learning community and lock it in as responsible middle schoolers.
How You Can Help at Home: Reinforce this language at home by praising your child when they follow through on household tasks or directions right away: "Thank you for listening the first time!"
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in helping our students Lock It In every day for a welcoming, focused, and respectful school year!

Longfellow Sporting Event Eligibility
Just a reminder: At Longfellow Middle School, attending school sporting events as a spectator is a privilege tied to maintaining positive behavior and academic focus during the school day. To support a safe and respectful school culture, student eligibility to attend home games as a spectator will be based on the following behavioral guidelines:
Major Discipline Referrals: Any student who receives a Major referral will be ineligible to attend all athletic events as a spectator for one month from the date of the incident.
Minor Referrals: Any student who receives more than 2 Minor referrals in a two-week period will be ineligible to attend games for those two weeks.
Tardies: Any student with more than 5 tardies in a two-week period will be ineligible to attend games for those two weeks.
Important Logistic & Safety Notice for Families:
Please review these expectations with your student. Ineligible students will be turned away at the door and will not be permitted to stay in the building or wait on school grounds. If turned away, students must have a safe, pre-arranged way home immediately after school. Administration and supervision staff will verify student eligibility prior to entry, so please ensure your student is aware of their status before planning to stay for a game.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our school community safe and focused on positive achievement!
