WAES Monthly Newsletter
October 2026
Happy October!
Dear Wildcat Parents.
We have made it to fall! By this time, we have assessed all students' reading and math levels and have received records from previous campuses. We are more aware of what each child needs and have started small group instruction. Tutorials have also began this past month.
With that being said, you will receive your child's first report card for the 26-27 school year. Grades and report cards can be viewed in Skyward. For this report card though, we will provide you a copy when you come in for a parent-teacher conference. Conferences will begin October 14 and run through October 23. Please be on the look out for more information from your child's teacher on how to sign up for an appointment.
This month, our campus is also busy gearing up for our annual PTA Fall Festival. The Fall Festival will be on Friday, October 23 from 5-8pm. We will need several volunteers prior to actual event to help set up and prepare; there will be also volunteer opportunities for the day of. This event is our biggest PTA fundraiser and we cannot do it without you! Reach out to our counselor Mr. Barahona if you are interested in helping!
Please note that lunch visits also start this month. We kindly ask that you read through the expectations page, as we have made some changes. Particularly, any parent or visitor coming to eat with their child will need to pre-register. By pre-registering, we can cut down on the crowds upon arrival and not further delay your entry.
There's many more thematic days for this month as we celebrate Homecoming Week with our fellow Southside school, and Red Ribbon Week. Participation is optional; regular uniform is required if not participating.
Let's have a great October and as always, if you need to speak to an administrator, please call the front office to make an appointment.
Best regards,
Mrs. Rodriguez,
Principal

Attendance
As we move further into the school year, we want to emphasize how critical consistent attendance is to academic success.
We have noticed an increase in tardiness and absences, particularly right after school breaks. Please review our attendance policies:
7:40 a.m. – Arrival after this time is marked tardy.
9:30 a.m. – Official attendance time. Students checked out after 9:30 a.m. are marked present for the day.
Transfers – Excessive tardies or absences may result in the revocation or future denial of transfer requests.
Thank you for prioritizing your child’s learning! For any attendance questions, please reach out to Mrs. Rangel in the front office.
Volunteering and Background Checks
If you are interested in volunteering at school or attending a field trip with your child,
please complete an official background check by clicking on the button below.
This must be completed before you are eligible to volunteer at any Galena Park ISD campus
or to chaperone any field trips.
This is also a yearly requirement.
