Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
December 8, 2023
We had another full week at The Lab! The highlight of the week was truly the 5th grade Winter Concerts on Monday and Tuesday. Our 5th graders have done incredible work in preparation for the concerts, in only ~11 weeks. I am so grateful to our 5th grade parents who have supported practice at home and bringing forgotten instruments to school on lesson days, and of course to Mrs. Tunison, Mrs. Vincent and our 5th grade teachers. Without their dedication, skill, and teamwork, Lutherville wouldn't be able to offer the outstanding and robust music education that is a hallmark of our school. Thank you!
At the concerts during the school day on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning we were able to also celebrate our Read-A-Thon top readers and raisers and one of each got to deliver a whipped cream pie to my face while a gym full of students chanted "PIE IN THE FACE! PIE IN THE FACE!"
This week I also visited Dumbarton Middle School on Wednesday with other feeder elementary schools and Towson High to visit classrooms, here from 6th grade students about their transition to MS and collaborate with other schools on how we can continue to best support and prepare our students for middle school.
Thursday evening we hosted a Boundary Study information session for just our LL Community. We recorded the Meet and if you would like to view, it is available at this link through December 22nd. A reminder that the BCPS Survey for the Boundary Study's current options is available here through December 17th.

Hour of Power!
During Monday's professional learning day, our faculty met and commited to launch an innovative plan to provide some additional personalized learning during the school day to our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders during their extra rotation time on Thursday and Friday afternoons from 2:00 - 3:00. We are calling it a "Power Hour" and it will run from the return from Winter Break until we go out for Spring Break. We believe this opportunity will help grow all our students, and we need our community's help!
We are seeking partnership in multiple ways to make this program happen for our amazing students:
- If you're available, volunteer to come in and play a game or activity with students!
- Helping to prepare materials in the month of December (at school or from home)
- Donating funds for books for some students, or snacks
We are working with our higher education partners at Goucher, Loyola, and Towson to find future teachers excited for additional opportunities to serve students, but are also open to connections with family members, retired educators, and community members who would like to work with 3-4 students to support their learning activities. All volunteers will complete BCPS Volunteer Training and Background Checks.
Mitten Tree and Toys for Tots
It is hard to believe that the holidays are quickly approaching. For Lutherville Lab, it is a time to remember children that need our help. We are continuing our tradition of the MITTEN TREE. We will collect NEW mittens, hats, gloves, and scarves to decorate our tree in the lobby. These will be donated to a shelter in our area. The mitten tree donations will run from Monday, November 27th-Friday, December 15th. All sizes are needed.
We will also collect toys for children through Kids Helping Hopkins. We need NEW unwrapped toys. Please do not send in plush toys or stuffed animals. Please consider sending in items for the Mitten Tree or a toy for Kids Helping Hopkins. Our children have gained so much from the experience of giving to others. The toy drive will take place from Monday, November 27th-Friday, December 8th.
Thank you so much in advance for your donations.
Wishes for a wonderful holiday season,

Celebrating Teachers & Staff - Contributions by Dec 14th
Thank you to everyone who has sent in generous donations for our staff who work tirelessly to support our students and school in their roles as custodians, cafeteria staff, adult assistants, front office staff, related arts and special education teachers and more. If you would like to contribute towards a gift of thanks for each of these dedicated professionals, please Venmo @Lisa-Reagle-3 with the note “LL staff gift” so we can purchase a thank you holiday treat on behalf of the whole school community! You may also send in cash or a check made out to Lutherville Lab PTA in an envelope marked "PTA" by Thurs Dec 14th. Thanks for your consideration!
Luncheon for Staff on Fri Dec 15th: Opportunities to Fund Salads, Make a Soup or Help with Cleanup

Boundary Study Voting Guide in Students' Folders - Please VOTE by Dec 17th
This week via your student's green folder you should have received this guide with instructions on how to complete the boundary study survey and the PTA's recommendations based on our conversations with other communities whose schools are impacted on each of the four maps. Voting also provides an opportunity to reiterate that we value our community and do not wish to see our boundaries change in any future maps. Please let us know if you have any questions and thank you in advance for VOTING by Dec 17th!
