Meet our K-2 School Counselor
Hello Kinnaman Families!
I am so glad to be back at Kinnaman for another school year! As the school counselor I look forward to continuing to support you and your students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Entering into my 3rd year at Kinnaman I hope to continue my work in supporting your students to grow and learn socially, emotionally, and academically. Some of the ways that I support students here at Kinnaman is by teaching social emotional lessons in the classroom, working with small groups of students on skill building and individual check ins with students. I look forward to supporting you, your student(s) and our Kinnaman community this school year.
A little about me: I grew up mostly in Southern California, and come from a big family. Growing up, education was always a big focus in my parents home. My mom worked as a secretary in schools and as I got older I would spend time volunteering in classrooms at her school. I knew I would continue to work towards obtaining being a part of the world of education in some way. I attended Cal State Fullerton and received a Bachelor's of Science in Child Adolescent Studies. I eventually decided that I waned to put my focus into becoming a School Counselor. I moved to Oregon to pursue my Master's degree in Counselor Education with a focus in School Counseling at Portland State University.
I am so happy to be here supporting the Kinnaman Community! Go Coyotes!

Kindness in the Classroom
In December, we will be finishing up our unit on caring. Some topics include self-care, helpfulness, gratitude, compassion, and empathy. Consider one of these conversation-starter questions:
What parts of our daily routine demonstrate some type of self-care?
How does helping without asking inspire kindness in our family?
How do our words and actions show others we are thankful for who they are and what they do for us?
How do we show compassion to others our own age?
How are compassion and empathy connected?
Attendance Matters
We expect students to attend school on time every day if they do not meet the Too Sick for School criteria.
Feel Like You've Tried Everything?
Do you feel like life is getting in the way of your child making it to school each day on time? Contact our school social worker Haylee Hernandez at haylee_hernandez@beaverton.k12.or.us.

Visitor/Volunteer Policy
If you haven’t done so already, please reapply to be a volunteer or visitor in the Beaverton School District. We’re implementing a new volunteer management system and need time to process and complete the criminal background checks for all applicants.
Please note, that to enter the school building during regular student hours, you must have completed the background check. It takes about 10 days to process so please plan ahead.
Start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
