Body Safety Program-Please Read
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Your child’s class will be participating in a very important program called Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe that teaches children about personal safety. During a single 30- to 60-minute session on November 6th or 7th, a trained facilitator will present research-based, age-appropriate lessons to help children learn the skills to prevent or interrupt cycles of neglect and child abuse – physical, emotional and sexual - as mandated by Indiana state law.
Because adults are responsible for keeping children safe, the lessons focus on helping children identify a safe adult and learn five safety rules the children can use to help their safe adults keep them safe:
1. It’s MY body! 2. Ask an adult if I am safe 3. I have choices 4. Tell someone 5. It’s NEVER my fault!
The program is voluntary, which means that you do not have to allow your child to participate, or you may take your child out of the program at any time. Please sign and return the attached letter only if you DO NOT want your child to participate. If we do not receive the form, we will assume your child has permission to be included in the lessons. Visit www.indianaprevention.org or email megan@indianaprevention.org for
Thank you for helping build a strong safety net for our children!
Sincerely, Christi Reed,

Kindergarten Bus Drop-Off Safety Reminder
For the safety of our youngest students, Shelbyville Central Schools requires that all kindergarten students be met at the bus stop by a parent, guardian, older responsible sibling, or another approved adult listed on the Student Release Authorization Form provided by the parent.
Please be sure the approved adult is physically present at the bus stop when the bus arrives so the driver can safely release your child directly to them.
If the driver does not recognize the adult meeting your child, they will ask to see identification and verify that the individual is listed on the Student Release Authorization Form.
If no approved adult is present at the stop, your child will be returned to school, and the parent will be contacted.
Thank you for helping us keep our youngest students safe and for your cooperation with this important safety procedure!

Good News From Coulston
We are so proud of the amazing start to our school year here at Coulston Elementary! Our hallways and classrooms are filled with energy, and our students are already showing what it truly means to be a Coulston Comet.
Every day, we look for opportunities to catch our students doing the right thing. When a Comet goes above and beyond, we celebrate them with Good News Visits and special recognition certificates for being:
Respectful: Using kind words and honoring our school community.
Responsible: Taking ownership of their learning and daily actions.
Safe: Making careful, thoughtful choices in everything they do.

***Car RIder Information-New This Year***
New this year…Drop-off and Pick-up will be in the back lot at the gym entrance. Staff will be stationed at the designated unloading area to help students safely exit their vehicles. For safety, students should always exit on the passenger side onto the walkway. Please make sure your child is ready to exit the vehicle when you pull up. This will help keep traffic flowing and avoid any back up traffic.
All families should use the car rider line during arrival and dismissal. The front entrance is reserved for buses only during these times. This is a new traffic pattern for the school year. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as everyone learns the new routine. Our goal is to keep traffic moving while providing a safe arrival and dismissal for all students, while also allowing Coulston Lane to be accessible to the nearby residents. Thank you for helping us keep our Coulston Comets safe!
