Week of Sept. 22-26

Our Mission: Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School disciples each generation to grow deeply, serves humbly, and goes boldly in Christ to advance God’s Kingdom.

We Praise You and Acknowledge You

This month our students have been learning the hymn “We Praise You and Acknowledge You.” The words come from the Te Deum, an ancient hymn of praise that Christians have sung for centuries. In this hymn we are reminded that our worship is never just our own voices — we join with angels, the saints who have gone before us, and believers all around the world in praising the one true God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The hymn teaches us two important things. First, it centers our eyes on Jesus Christ. It calls Him “the King of glory” who came down to save us. He humbled Himself to take on flesh, suffered and died for us, and now reigns at the right hand of the Father. That means our salvation is secure — we belong to Him, not because of what we do, but because of what He has done.

Second, the hymn reminds us of the hope we live with every day. In its final verse we confess, “You will come to be our judge; we therefore pray You to help Your servants… and bring us with Your saints to glory everlasting.” It’s a hymn of confidence that in Christ, we are forgiven and our future is sure.

As parents and students, when we sing this hymn together, we practice lifting our eyes from the busy, sometimes hard details of life and look instead to the eternal promises of God. It helps us remember that we are not alone — we belong to Christ, and our voices are joined with a great chorus of praise.
