7th Grade Weekly News, May 19
From the desk of Chris Howell, Assistant Principal
One week remaining for this group of seventh graders. It has been an honor to be a part of their journey, and I cannot wait to see what their future holds. Thank you students and parents for all of your support this year.
Below is information on a couple future opportunities for students. The first is a mentorship program that takes place in the 8th grade. Students who sign up will be mentored by high school students during the 24-25 school year. Representatives of this program met with our students on Wednesday morning.
The second is a show choir based singing and dancing camp this summer. It sounds like a good time for our students who enjoy the arts.
This is the time of year when students have many emotions as the summer approaches. Please remind your students that school rules still need to be followed. Sometimes, their feelings tend to take over their decision making.
Progress Challenge #2:
This Progress Challenge has been going well, and we have seen a growth in our numbers of students attending school. Thank you parents for getting your students to school each day.
The challenge is complete and the results will be announced on Monday morning.
I hope everyone has a nice weekend.
Recognizing one of our own
Lexi Seiler (Globetrotters) was selected by JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) in January to be one of their Youth Ambassadors for 2024. The JDRF Youth Ambassador program was created for children and teens living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) who are interested in becoming involved with the educational, fundraising, and volunteer efforts of their local JDRF community. On April 26th, Lexi participated as both a youth ambassador and volunteer at the 2024 JDRF Cleveland Promise Ball, hosted at Cleveland Browns stadium, which raised over $600,000 to support research in finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
Lexi was diagnosed with T1D in February of 2023, while we happened to be on break for a long weekend. To say this was shocking news would be an understatement, but during the initial few hours of being diagnosed, Lexi jumped in to researching the disease and doing all she could to learn about her new normal. Over the course of the next few weeks, JDRF reached out with valuable information and a community of support. We knew right away, that dedicating ourselves to the organization that was doing all they could to advance life-changing breakthroughs for those with T1D, and ultimately working to find a cure was one of the most important steps on Lexi's journey. Becoming a youth ambassador, was just another stepping stone. Lexi will be once again be walking for a cure during the JDRF One Walk in October. Last year, Lexi's team CARB-o-RAE-tors raised over $8,000 to support JDRF, and is hoping to break our goal of $10,000 this year. Anyone interested in joining her team can get more information here - Lexi Seiler - Team CARB-o-RAE-tors - JDRF One Walk
