Doherty 26-27 School Year
Doherty Digest 9/11
Principal's Message 9/11/26
Celebrating Our First Two Weeks!
We have had a wonderful first two weeks of school! Our students have been learning what it means to be safe, respectful, responsible, and ready to learn throughout Doherty. Knowing and meeting expectations in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and other shared spaces helps create a positive environment where every student can learn and thrive. We encourage families and caregivers to talk with their students about these expectations at home and discuss how they can continue to demonstrate safe, respectful, responsible, and ready-to-learn behaviors throughout the school day. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for helping us begin the year so successfully!
Friday Principal Challenge: Show Appreciation
Today’s Principal Challenge is all about appreciation! Every student is challenged to thank someone who has taken the time and made the effort to help them during these first two weeks of school. It could be a teacher, staff member, classmate, family member, or anyone else who has helped make the beginning of the school year special. A simple “thank you” can make a big difference!

The Doherty Color Run registration is OPEN!
Now that the first day of school is behind us, don’t forget to register for this year’s Color Run! This is the PTO’s BIGGEST fundraiser of the year and allows us to fund programming for the school year. Plus, it’s a bunch of fun!
The Color Run is coming Friday, October 9! Students will walk or run through the school's field course while washable, non-toxic color powder is tossed at stations along the way.
IMPORTANT: Register your student on FundHub and share their fundraising page with family and friends. Students who raise at least $75 by September 18 will earn a FREE Blizzard coupon, redeemable on any monthly Blizzard Day during the school year!

SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH INFORMATION
The Michigan School Aid Budget provides for each student a breakfast and a lunch each school day for the school year.
To ensure your child's access to meals is not interrupted and to help West Bloomfield School District secure critical state and federal funding, we need ALL families to complete the Education & Nutrition Benefits Application (formerly known as the Free & Reduced Meals Application).
Complete your application today at: https://westbloomfield.familyportal.cloud/
If you need assistance or have questions about completing the form, please contact Andrea Grobe at andrea.grobe@wbsd.org
It's quick, confidential, and critical for student support and district funding.
- Your application helps ensure we can continue to provide nutritious meals to all students.
- Funding tied to our free/reduced rate supports far more than meals; it impacts academic programs, technology, and student services.
- Event if you think you may not qualify, completing the form still helps the district.
Ensuring that students are well fed throughout the school day is our top priority. Nutrition Services serves nutritious meals to students daily in all buildings. A school lunch includes an entrée, grain, fruit, vegetable, and milk.
If a doctor has determined that your child has a disability, and the disability would prevent your child from eating regular school meals, the nutrition program will make substitutions prescribed by a licensed physician at no extra charge. This includes food and milk allergies. The physician’s statement, including diet and/or substitutions, must be submitted to the nutrition office so appropriate changes can be made.
