Welcome Back toHORIZON! January 2024
zoom_out_map

Dear Horizon Family,

I hope you were able to enjoy a peaceful winter vacation.

πŸ‘‰ STUDENTS RETURN TO SCHOOL THURSDAY, JAN 4th.

We are eager to see all the smiling faces of our students when they return on Thursday and are eager to get quarter 3 under way with engaging and exciting learning in all of our classrooms. As we start this new year it is exciting to think about our goals for 2024. It is also amazing to think about how quickly this year is passing and how much learning is left to get accomplished! Attending school every day really matters when students are learning so much each day. To avoid gaps in learning or missing important concepts please make sure to send your student to school every day.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 2024!

PLEASE DRESS WARM

Many students are coming to school dress ill equipped for winter recess. Please send your child in winter weather appropriate clothing and outdoor clothing:

INDOORS:

1. Dress in layers. (t-shirt with a long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt over the top)

2. Were pants (bare legs are not warm enough for littles)

3. Were socks and close toed shoes (like tennis shoes) for indoors

OUTDOORS:

1. Boots (if you have them)...snow boots when it gets snowy!

2. Hat (50% of your body heat is lost through your head-plus these littles get cold ears)

3. Mittens or gloves (there has been a lot of cold hands and fingers)

4. A WINTER jacket. (no matter what the kiddos say. A sweatshirt is not a winter jacket)

5. If it is really snowy out -- snow pants are a welcomed addition.

PRO TIP: PLEASE write your child's FIRST AND LAST NAME inside ALL the CLOTHING items so if the end up in LOST and FOUND they can find their way back to them!

Your child will thank you!

Let's try and learn to tie our shoes by spring break!

Let's see if we can make the goal of

EVERYONE knowing how to tie their shoes by spring break!

Let's make it a game and see if we can get

all those friends that don't know how or are quite sure how to tie

to ask a "big kid" or grown up to help teach them how!

"Spring" in to action and Practice, practice, practice!

Teacher Professional Development Day!

ALICE Training to empower all our staff to respond with confidence in the event of a violent critical incident. To enable staff to be trained to respond and keep your child safe and respond effectively using ALICE skills.

In the spring, after the staff is trained. We will carefully work with the students and practice ALICE skills so they are able to respond with confidence in the event of an emergency as well.

Safe Kids are NO accident! It takes planning, drills and practice to know what to do in the event of a crisis situation!

Therefore we will be teaching the students about what a LOCKDOWN drill is (one of the ALICE safety measures) and practicing how to do it in the spring. More information to come on this.
