Mr. Macken's Message
Centerville Families,
As we begin the final quarter of the school year, we are focusing on an important idea with our students: Expecting Excellence.
The last quarter can often be the most challenging time of the year. With summer approaching, it can be harder for students to stay focused and maintain the habits that lead to success. That is why we are being very intentional about helping students finish the year strong.
At school, we are talking about how excellence doesn’t mean being the best. It means doing your best. It means trying when work is hard, making good choices, and putting in your best effort each day. We are also emphasizing that excellence shows up in how students treat others through kindness, respect, and encouragement.
To help bring this message to life, we shared a short video with students that highlights how effort and kindness can create a positive chain reaction:
We encourage you to watch the video shown below with your child and ask them how they are showing excellence at school.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support
Go Cougars!
Mike Macken

Inspiring Creativity, Enriching Education: Fund the Need 2026
Thank you for your support of the Centennial Area Education Foundation (CAEF) annual gala. Donations are still being accepted for Fund the Need, an initiative marking the second year of an exciting multi-year commitment to enhancing Pre-K– grade 12 Music and Arts Education in our schools. By expanding access to essential resources, we’re ensuring that every student has the opportunity to explore, create, and grow through the arts. With your support, this year we will equip grades 6-12 band programs with the instruments needed for student participation.
Why It Matters: Arts education nurtures creativity, confidence, and collaboration—essential skills that shape well-rounded, inspired students. Join us in making the arts accessible for all, ensuring that every child, from Pre-K through high school, has the opportunity to discover their creative potential.
Together, we can make a lasting impact!

School Board hosts Listening Session April 20
In ongoing efforts to gather feedback from stakeholders, the School Board is hosting quarterly Listening Sessions for the public. The next session will be held on April 20, 5:30 p.m.-6:15 p.m. in the District Board Room.
The sessions provide the opportunity for community members, staff, parents, and students to meet informally with board representatives and the superintendent to discuss topics in the schools. Listening Sessions increase communication and engagement work that reflects the district’s commitment to excellence. Additional sessions to seek input/perspective on topics established by the Board would be scheduled as a special or additional Board Listening Session.
Board members or the superintendent may ask clarifying questions of you as the participant to gain a thorough understanding of your concern, suggestion, or request. If there is any follow-up or response to your comment or suggestion, you will be contacted via email or phone in a timely manner by a member of the board or administration. Please be aware that disrespectful comments or comments of a personal nature, directed at an individual either by name or inference, will not be allowed. Personnel concerns should be directed first to a principal or executive director of the department, then to the executive director of human resources, then to the superintendent, and finally, in writing, to the board. More information can be found on the Centennial website.
