Sunset View Newsletter
Week of September 14, 2026
Message from Jennifer
I hope you all enjoyed the weekend and were able to find ways to stay cool. Last week's heat was unusual for our school by the ocean. We had to make schedule and classroom adjustments and monitor water intake and rest time. We are all hoping the worst is behind us!
Thank you to all who braved the heat and joined us for our Family Kick-Off Dinner! Every year this event gets bigger and better! It was so fun seeing our field filled with so many families! There were so many great things happening; put-put, an obstacle course, yummy food trucks, t brand new logowear to purchase, crafts, raffles, and so much more. Our fourth graders raised money for their activities by selling delicious ice cream sandwiches. It warmed my heart to see so many Sunset View alumni helping out at the event through TVIA, Madcaps, or their own philanthropic spirit. This event is not only a great way to celebrate the start to a successful school year, but also to remind us of the community spirit we cherish at Sunset View, and we just love it. I hope all who attended had a fabulous time!

Current community members on the committee are:
Jennifer Poe who is on Year 2
Please submit your nominations ASAP. We will contact those nominated and to confirm they accept the nomination. A ballot form will open later for voting.
Health Office Needs
The health office is in need of new boys underwear and used boys clothing to have on hand when we have friends that need to change. Thank you!
Action Needed: Review the Family Resource Guide
Please log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal to review the 2026-27 Family Resource Guide (formerly Facts for Parents). Please complete the one-question confirmation form and the Universal Form.
Completing these required forms ensures your child can fully participate in classroom and school activities, including media coverage or opportunities for their work to be showcased.
Need support with Parent Portal? Visit the Parent Portal resource webpage or contact our school office.
Community Bulletin Board
Our Community Bulletin Board is a favorite tradition here at Sunset View. We love seeing pictures of our students and their families all collected in one space right outside of our main office. Please send a picture to your child's teacher to add to the board.
Reminders
SDUSD Updated Screen Time Policy
As we kick off the new school year, San Diego Unified is introducing a new learner-centered technology resolution to help students stay focused, healthy, and engaged in learning.
Beginning August 10, students will see a few important changes:
Video-streaming platforms, such as YouTube, will only be available on district-issued Chromebooks when enabled by teachers for instructional purposes.
Non-instructional gaming platforms will still be prohibited on district-issued devices.
Computer carts will be removed from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classrooms, while ensuring students with Individualized Education Plans, 504 Plans, or language-learning needs continue to receive appropriate access.
These updates are part of our commitment to creating learning environments where technology supports student learning, safety, wellness, and healthy development.
As a parent, you can also reduce screentime and non-instructional use of Chromebooks by activating your Blocksi Parent account to monitor and restrict access when your student is not at school. To learn more about how to use Blocksi, read this Blocksi Parent Job Aid.
To learn more about the new resolution click here and click here for the press release.

Attendance
Please do not send your child to school when they are sick.
When your child must be absent for any reason, please call the office at 858-988-2000 by 9:30 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. You can also email sunselm@sandi.net.
Any child arriving after 9:00 a.m. must stop in the office and pick up a tardy slip. Let's set good habits early in the school year to arrive on time.
