The Buzz
AUTUMN TERM - 16TH OCTOBER 2025
Message from the Executive Headteacher
There is a definite autumnal feeling in the air and there is even a little chill. We will soon be commemorating remembrance day both in school and at the local event, thank you to the Y1 pupil and their family who will be joining Mrs Gale and there is space for another pupil from Y1 or Y2 to accompany her on Sunday 9th November. Please contact the school admin team if you are interested. Mrs Connolly will be working with the staff to produce a poppy installation in the school grounds which will be stunning I'm sure. Next week the children will be able to buy poppies and other merchandise at the end of the day, this will be cash only.
We have updated the HISN Behaviour Policy to include a pupil reflection element so that we capture pupil voice and can also reflect on the zones of regulation and our bee rules. HISN Behaviour Policy Please take some time to look at this.

Talk Pants
"Talk PANTS" is an online safety campaign by the NSPCC to help children understand their bodies are private and to encourage them to talk to a trusted adult if something makes them feel upset or worried. This week, Public Health encouraged all Early Years and Primary School settings to celebrate Talk Pants. The aim is to promote simple conversations with young people to keep them safe from harm. This week teachers introduced the safety messages with the help of PANTosaurus, who helps children understand that their body belongs to them and they should tell a safe adult they trust if anything makes them upset or worried.
To find out more about the campaign and plan your activities for Talk PANTS week please view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bk0p0Et-ZZ0

We have been busy bees this half term, since our last instalment of the Buzz! We celebrated National Poetry Day on 2nd October, inspired by the poem ‘Word Play’, we played with the words for the famous ‘London’s burning’ poem. In English, our Focus book is the Gingerbread man. We have spent our time understanding the elements of the story which make it a fairy tale and have focused on character descriptions using expanded noun phrases. We have also explored using the conjunction ‘because’ to extend our sentences and give reasons for our descriptions by pulling information from the book. We cannot wait to start rewriting the story next week.
In maths, we have begun our addition and subtraction unit of work where we have recapped our bonds to ten and twenty, we have used practical resources to explore related addition fact families and have been exploring how we add by crossing the tens boundary e.g. 7 + 8.
In RE, we have been exploring the religion of Hinduism and were fortunate enough to have Nabhi Navhinandan Das from the London Institute of Vedic Education visit us and hold a Diwali assembly. He helped us to learn where Hindu’s believe the story of Diwali originated from and we were able to re-enact the story. We were also able to gain an insight into how Hindu’s may celebrate Diwali and we were given the opportunity to ask a range of questions regarding the Hindu religion.
In history, we have continued to think about the Great Fire of London and focused on other important historical events which took place in the 1600’s including the Plague and The Gunpower Plot. We began to understand how all three events from the 1600’s helped to shape how London is today.
In art, we have started to think about shading and observational drawing. We have explored the work of Frieda Kahlo who created bright, Mexican inspired observational drawing of fruit and other everyday objects. We have enjoyed experimenting how to create light and dark shades with different toned sketching pencils.
In PSHE, our topic this half term is emotional health and wellbeing. As part of this, the UNICEF right we have been focusing on is the right to be safe. As part of our PSHE curriculum, we have been thinking about things we are thankful for, seeing other people’s point of view, being positive and this week, we focused on supporting our wellbeing through being mindful. We explored a range of mindful activities which helped us to regulate our emotions and make us feel calm and ready to learn.
In science, our topic this half term is everyday materials. As part of this learning, we have explored the properties of materials and how these properties make them suitable or unsuitable for a range of uses. We have also explored recycling and this week, we explored different everyday materials and sorted them into which type of recycling they were.
Each child at Hampton Infant School has a personal log in to Oxford Reading Buddy. This is a wonderful resource where your child can access digital copies of a range of books. They can read these aloud, listen to stories and answer quiz questions to support their comprehension skills. Your child's class teacher has recently updated your child's account so a new series of books will be available for you to access. We hope you enjoy sharing these books with your children and can use this resource to support their reading at home in addition to their weekly reading book from school. Your child's personal log in details can be found in the front of their home school diary.
