District Update

Seventh graders at Kakiat S.T.E.A.M. Academy brought science to life, transforming the hallway into a hands-on lab to test how ramp height affects speed and distance. Teacher Ms. Sullivan led the young scientists as they worked in teams measuring, recording and analyzing their data, putting the scientific method into motion. ERCSD is working to improve the operations of the transportation department. We have engaged an outside consulting group to review all aspects of our transportation operations, and are in the process of hiring a coordinator of transportation and an office manager to help the department run more efficiently.

As we make these improvements, families still in need of assistance regarding transportation issues are encouraged to first contact their child’s principal. If the matter is not resolved, families may reach out directly to the transportation department at the number listed below.

The East Ramapo Central School District has established protocols for deciding whether to close or delay school or cancel programs due to inclement weather or other emergencies. Security personnel are stationed in every East Ramapo school, with School Resource Officers assigned to both high schools. In an emergency, school officials assess the situation and respond quickly, safely, and appropriately, with student and staff safety as the top priority. Families and staff are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the New York State Emergency Response terms, represented by the acronym S.H.E.L.L. National Custodian Day took place on October 2, giving us the opportunity to celebrate the district's dedicated custodial team for the care and pride they put into maintaining our East Ramapo schools, buildings and grounds. We are grateful for the work they do every day to ensure classrooms, hallways and common spaces are safe, clean and ready for learning.

At the September 29 meeting of the East Ramapo Board of Education, four high school students were sworn in as ex officio student members of the board for the 2025-26 school year. Beginning this year, New York state requires all school districts to include at least one student representative as a nonvoting member of their board of education.
