Northview Familia, Northview Familia,

It’s Homecoming Spirit Week at Northview! We’re looking forward to a great week of school spirit, activities, and Viking pride leading up to our Homecoming Dance this Saturday, October 10. We encourage all students to participate in our spirit days, get involved, and help make this a memorable week. Let’s show everyone what it means to be a Viking!

We also had another strong week of attendance! From September 28 through October 2, Northview achieved an average daily attendance rate of 97.4%. Thank you, families, for continuing to make daily attendance a priority. Every day matters, and every class matters—keep it up, Vikings!

While our overall attendance remains strong, we need your support with on-time arrival. This past week, 76 students were marked tardy to Period 1 at least twice. Please speak with your student about the importance of arriving at school on time and being ready to learn when the bell rings. Strong attendance means being present and on time so students can take advantage of every instructional minute.

As we continue our commitment to AVID Schoolwide and college and career readiness, we have some exciting opportunities ahead. This Tuesday, October 6, from 5:30–7:00pm at Covina District Field, families are invited to attend the Covina-Valley USD College & Career Fair. Students will have the opportunity to connect with college and career representatives, explore programs, ask questions, and learn more about their options after graduation.

Looking ahead, Northview will host our very own Future Day on October 20 for all seniors! Future Day will provide our Class of 2027 with dedicated time and support to focus on their next steps after graduation. Whether their path includes a four-year university, community college, career training, the military, or entering the workforce, our goal is for every Viking to graduate with a plan.

Finally, congratulations to our FAME Academy students on the latest episode of Viking Vision! Our students continue to showcase their creativity, technical skills, and storytelling while highlighting the people, programs, and events that make Northview special. Great work, FAME Academy!

Let’s make it a great Homecoming Week, Vikings! Bring the energy, show your school spirit, and continue to represent the Gold Standard.

Every Classroom. Every Student. Every Day.

The presentations include information about college options, application timelines, requirements, financial aid, and resources available to support students throughout the year.

OCTOBER 6 | COVINA-VALLEY USD COLLEGE & CAREER FAIR — TOMORROW!

5:30–7:00 PM | Covina District Field

The Covina-Valley USD College & Career Fair is tomorrow!

Students and families are invited to connect with college and career representatives, ask questions, explore different programs, and learn more about the many opportunities available after high school.

This event is open to students and families across the district. We encourage our Vikings to take advantage of this opportunity!

SENIORS — BEFORE YOU HIT SUBMIT!

College applications are opening, but don't rush to hit submit!

Before submitting your applications, check in with your counselor to make sure everything is filled out correctly. Once an application is submitted, you may not be able to go back and make corrections.

Start early, ask questions, and give yourself enough time to carefully review your application before submitting.

OCTOBER 20 | FUTURE DAY — SENIORS ONLY

During the School Day | Northview High School

Future Day is coming up! This exclusive senior event is designed to give our Viking seniors dedicated time and support to take the next step after high school.

During the school day, seniors will receive hands-on support with:

  • CSU & UC Applications

  • Private & Out-of-State Applications

  • Community College Applications

  • FAFSA/CADAA

  • Trade Schools & Career Pathways

Students will have the opportunity to work on applications, explore their postsecondary options, ask questions, and connect with counselors and college representatives.

Whatever your plan is after Northview, Future Day is about helping you take that next step!

CSU APPLICATION SUPPORT | CAL POLY POMONA

Need some extra help with your CSU application?

Cal Poly Pomona Outreach Counselors are offering virtual CSU Application Workshops to help students navigate Cal State Apply, avoid common mistakes, and get answers to their application questions.

Students can use the QR code on the attached flyer to register for an available workshop session.

COUNSELING TEAM REMINDER

October is a busy month for our seniors! College applications are underway, deadlines are approaching, and there are several opportunities available to help students through the process. We encourage students to start early, stay organized, ask questions, and take advantage of the support available to them. Our Counseling Team is here to help our Vikings plan ahead, explore their options, and prepare for what comes next!

College application season is here, and our schoolwide AVID initiative is helping ensure that Northview students are prepared for the opportunities ahead!

Our counseling, AVID, and Career Center teams are working together to provide seniors with the latest information, resources, and support for the college application process. Team members recently attended the annual CSU Conference, where they received updated information about the CSU application process and admissions updates from all 23 CSU campuses.

Throughout application season, Northview will offer college application workshops, individual support, and opportunities for students to stay informed about important deadlines and requirements. AVID seniors will receive additional dedicated application support through their AVID elective classes.

But college and career readiness begins long before senior year. Through AVID Schoolwide, we are building the skills all students need for success after high school—including organization, academic discourse, critical thinking, collaboration, self-advocacy, and goal setting.

Our goal is simple: every Northview student graduates with a plan, the skills to pursue it, and the confidence to take their next step.

This week’s spotlight is a true Viking multitasker! As Vice President of Interact Club and Co-President of both Bakers Club and Asian Cultural Appreciation Club, Elyzah Asuncion is definitely keeping busy at The View!

What she loves most about the View? Our teachers! She appreciate how teachers take the time to build genuine connections with students and make an impact beyond the classroom.

After Northview, she has her sights set on USC, where she hopes to study neuroscience. When she's not busy with clubs or academics, you’ll find her reading or getting creative through writing and designing stories.

Fun fact, Elyzah is a champion-level sleeper. Apparently, you could scream in her ear and she'd probably just keep snoozing.

Keep being awesome, Elyzah!
