The committee engaged in a robust planning discussion that included reviewing recent legislative activities and examining the DRAFT Statewide Framework Paper for Access to UW-Madison. Additionally, members considered the MTSD BOE Legislative Committee Legislative Topics Rubric and noted that the committee's membership will be up for consideration again at the upcoming Board’s June Business Meeting.
Looking ahead to next steps in legislative advocacy, the committee reviewed progress on the 2025-2026 Board and Superintendent Annual Goals and discussed SWSA recommendations for the Legislative Advocacy Calendar. The committee also mapped out key content for its upcoming report to the June BOE Business Meeting, which will feature high-level overviews of recent legislative activity—including the results of the Budget Surplus Bill—and outreach regarding the UW-Madison acceptance advocacy framework. The report will also provide updates on the creation of the rubric used to assess Legislative Platform topics and the progress made toward annual advocacy goals.
