DOUGLAS GARDENS ELEMENTARY
HOME OF THE MUSTANGS
From the Principal
On behalf of all the staff at Douglas Gardens School I would like to officially welcome you to another school year. Our shared focus is for all students, regardless of their ability level, to experience academic growth. Research shows that children who have a history of excessive absences tend to find future classroom assignments and activities more difficult to complete. This will reduce their level of achievement as well their interest in school. Regular attendance is a must if the school is to do the best possible job of educating your child. Thank you to all the families and students for making attendance and showing up to school a priority! You’ve got to go to grow!!
As a staff and as the principal, we are excited to continue in this work with our students through the upcoming school year as the sky’s the limit. We truly feel fortunate to be part of your child’s education. As always, if you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Pick up and Drop off
Parents dropping off students in the morning can begin entering the school parking lot at 7:55. If you arrive earlier, you will be asked to pull through and re-enter at 7:55. Parents picking up students at the end of the day can enter the lot at 2:30. This allows staff, delivery drivers etc. important access to our building. For Early Release Fridays, entry at dismissal is 12:10.
Attendance Calls
Parents/Guardians - When calling the school to report your child's absence, please use the "Attendance" option. When leaving the message , remember to include the following: Student's first and last name, Classroom teacher's name and the nature of the absence. If the reason for the absence is an illness, please leave a description of the illness. Many parents are leaving a message stating their student is "sick" and no other information. When no details are given regarding the nature of the absence, it will be recorded as an unexcused absence.
Picture Day
Lifetouch picture retake day is Tuesday October 12th

When Does School Start?
School begins promptly at 8:35 and ends at 2:50. It is critical you are aware of these times. Students who wish to have breakfast at school can arrive at 8:00 and our classroom doors open at 8:15 for students who are not joining us for breakfast. Students are dismissed at 2:50. We do not have supervision after dismissal so it is very important you are on time to pick up your student.
When To Stay Home
Please read the attached When to Stay Home chart from Oregon Health Authority
Annual Douglas Gardens Jogathon
The Annual Douglas Gardens Jogathon is coming up Friday, September 29 and we would love to have volunteers. If you want to volunteer and are already approved through the Raptor System, please call the office to sign up. If you are not through the Raptor system, please go to this link Raptor Volunteer Application
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found is already collecting items. It is very helpful if you can write your child’s name in their coat, backpack and lunch box. Without an identifying name, it is challenging to return items to students.
