This uplifting story out of Joe Foss will surely warm your heart and get you thinking of something other than snow for a minute!

If you spent any time in the downtown/Falls Park area within the last month, you know what a beautiful winter wonderland it gets turned into every holiday season. Have you ever paused to think about the people behind the scenes of this tradition? One Joe Foss student did – and she wanted to find a special way to say thank you to this team of hardworking professionals. Thanks to the help of Joe Foss Counselor Janell Mills, Parks and Rec Director Don Kearney, and the generosity of Falls Overlook Café, Quashanti Luby Roy’s dream became reality.

Quashanti and fellow Joe Foss students met with the Parks and Rec team on the afternoon of December 21st at the Falls Overlook Café, where they were able to say thank you in person over hot chocolate and other donated holiday treats. All the students attending and representing Joe Foss and Axtell Park are students who demonstrated good work ethic, conduct, and attendance. It was a fantastic opportunity for our Sioux Falls School District students to do something positive for their community. And as an added “cherry on top,” the Sioux Falls Challenge Coin was presented to Quashanti and Counselor Mills by the Parks and Rec admin team.

Great job to Quashanti and all the Axtell and Joe Foss students involved in this kind gesture!

Congratulations to our next SFSD All Star, Denise Logan! ⭐ Congratulations to our next SFSD All Star, Denise Logan! ⭐

Denise is an EL Liaison at Whittier Middle School. She was nominated for this award by Kelly Spillman-Kramer who shared this about Denise, "We have had many days where a bus has arrived late or a substitute bus driver has had to re-run a route, both this year and last. Denise has gone out and stood with students while waiting for the bus, rain or shine, hot or cold, as well as given students a ride to school when their bus has not arrived. She has done this not just for EL students, but all our students. She is constantly looking out for our kids, making sure they are safe and arriving to school. Denise goes above and beyond to help our students at Whittier."

We are thankful for Denise and her contribution to Whittier and the Sioux Falls School District!

Weekly Wellness: Bring a Friend

You may know someone who resolved to start exercising in the New Year. Begin your fitness journey together! It will increase your chances for success and you’ll have more fun. For this to work, you have to find an exercise that both of you enjoy. This might be a challenge, but it’s worth it since an exercise partner provides you with a support system, a positive social experience, and inspiration. There will be times when you don’t feel like working out and a partner can be just the motivation you need to get going.
