Dear Roberts Elementary School Families,

What a wonderful start to the 2026–2027 school year! The halls are filled with bright smiles, busy hands, and the unmistakable energy of a fantastic first month back together. We’ve loved welcoming our students and families—both returning and new—into our school community.

This September, we had the special privilege of celebrating our local community heroes. A huge thank you to our local police, fire, and EMT teams who visited us, inspired our students, and reminded us of the incredible support network we have surrounding our school.

Our students have settled smoothly into their daily classroom routines, building strong learning habits and making new connections every day. Seeing their enthusiasm and curiosity over these past few weeks has been the highlight of our return.

We had an outstanding first month, and we are so excited for all the learning, growth, and fun in store for the rest of the school year. Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making our school a warm, vibrant place for every child.

Sincerely,

Jason Bialka, Ed.D.

On September 11th, Roberts Elementary welcomed approximately 30 local heroes from our police, fire, and EMS responders. Students were able to given thanks to our heroes while also exploring their equipment and vehicles. Our heroes were also served a grab and go lunch at the conclusion of their visit. Our partnership with our local police, fire, and EMS is so appreciated!

Students at Roberts are in the midst of celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Not only are students reading about the contributions of Hispanic Americans, they are experiencing the culture through music and dance!

Thanks to our friends at Candlebrook Elementary who shared this idea, Roberts students are participating in a “silent disco,” listening and dancing to several different types of Latin music. Students scan QR codes on their tablets, and they are then able to listen to the various types of Latin Music, including mariachi, reggaeton, merengue, cumbia, samba, bachata, latin pop, and salsa!

October 30th: Roberts Fall Parade October 30th: Roberts Fall Parade

On Friday, October 30th, students and staff will take part in a Fall Parade around our school grounds. The parade will begin at approximately 1:50PM. Please know that while all Roberts parents/family members are invited to the Fall Parade (which will take place outside of Roberts Elementary School), for student safety and attendance purposes, we are asking that all students remain in school after the Fall Parade. Families may pick up children in our carline during dismissal.

Please know that should it rain, there will be an indoor parade organized at the same time. We will make that determination the morning of the event.

With regard to student costumes, we ask that costumes, with any display of blood and gore as well as any weaponry (knives, swords, guns, etc.) are avoided. Additionally, costumes must be able to be worn over regular school clothes so that the children can put them on and take them off in the classrooms with minimal assistance from the teacher. Masks will be permitted during the parade, but they cannot be worn on the school bus or at any other time during school day.

Costumes should be labeled in a bag with the student’s first and last name, and we will provide time for students to get changed prior to the parade.

Please see the accompanying map for more information about the parade route. The parade route is designed to give families plenty of opportunities to take photos of their children. Additionally, we ask you to do your best to park in spaces that do not block the parade route. We will begin heading out the main entrance and turn around at the designated areas atop the field behind Roberts. When attending the parade, guests are to stand on either side of the parading students.

If you would prefer for your child to not participate in the Fall Parade, please complete this FORM by Tuesday, October 27th. Students not participating will engage in an alternative activity.

If you need assistance with a costume for your child, please reach out to our school counselor Ms. Michelle McEvoy (mmcevoy@umasd.org).
