Welcome Back!
What a wonderful start to the 2026–2027 school year! Our students have settled into their routines, built new friendships, and are well underway with their first units of learning. It has been great to see so much energy and excitement throughout our building!
Our morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up systems have really become a smooth process, and we appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we established these routines. A few quick reminders help us keep things moving safely and efficiently:
- Morning drop-off: Please use the front circle and have your child promptly exit your vehicle when you reach the drop-off area.
- 4K families: You may park on Tyler Road and walk your child to the front doors. This is reserved for 4K families.
- Pull all the way forward: If you are the first car in line, please pull all the way forward in the circle so we can keep the line moving.
- Please follow staff directions during arrival and dismissal to help keep everyone safe.
Communication between school and home is so important. All teachers should have already sent a whole-class communication to families, and teachers will reach out individually as needed throughout the year. Communication is a two-way partnership, so please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher when you have an important update to share, a question, or something you feel would help us better support your child.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. I look forward to an incredible 2026–2027 school year—it's going to be our best year yet!

Birthday Invitation Guidelines
We love celebrating birthdays and want to help make these special occasions exciting for our students! To ensure all students feel included and to protect family privacy, please follow these guidelines when sending birthday invitations.
- If you are inviting only a few students from your child’s class: Please do not send invitations to school for distribution. Invitations should be given to families outside of the school day.
- Please do not ask the school for parent contact information. Due to student and family privacy laws, we are unable to provide parent/guardian email addresses, phone numbers, or contact lists.
- If you are inviting the entire class: You are welcome to send a complete class set of invitations to school. Please let your child’s teacher know that you are sending invitations for the whole class, and the teacher will help distribute them at an appropriate time.
Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and inclusive school environment while respecting the privacy of all of our families.
District Wide Cell Phone Policy
Our district cell phone policy applies to Northview Elementary School as well. The policy is a bell to bell restriction of accessing a cell phone, smart watches, or earbuds that have a wireless connection feature.
Students are not permitted to access or use personal electronic devices from their lockers during the school day. Accessing or using a personal device during the school day, regardless of location, is considered a violation of this expectation.
If a student needs to contact a parent/guardian during the school day, they should do so through their teacher or the main office. Likewise, parents/guardians who need to communicate with their student(s) during the school day should contact the office.
Thank you for your support with this.
Social and Emotional Learning at Northview
The School District of Howards Grove and Northview Elementary continues to place a strong emphasis on Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Over the past few years, the importance of SEL has been brought to the forefront of education. SEL is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success.
According to the Committee for Children, people with strong social-emotional skills are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially. From effective problem-solving to self-discipline, impulse control to emotion management and more, SEL provides a foundation for positive, long-term effects on kids, adults, and communities. Children thrive, schools win, workplaces benefit, and society strengthens - all due to social-emotional learning.
You will be hearing your child talk about several SEL experiences this school year. We will continue with our monthly character traits and monthly school-wide assemblies. We will begin the year with the character trait of Friendship. Students will learn what it means to be a kind and considerate friend! You will also hear about something called Second Step. Second Step is an evidence-based SEL curriculum for grades PreK-8. All students at Northview will receive 20 weekly SEL lessons from their classroom teacher. Lessons are broken down into four units: Growth Mindset & Goal Setting, Emotion Management, Empathy & Kindness, and Problem-Solving. Students will also receive classroom guidance lessons (every other week) on additional SEL topics, which are taught by our school counselor.
If you have any questions about our SEL implementation at Northview, please reach out to Mrs. Ellinger or Mrs. Pfeifer.
Child Development Day
Child Development Day will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Northview School for all children who are four years old prior to September 1, 2027 and who will be at least 2 1⁄2 by the screening date of October 7. To participate, please use the QR code below or sign up here.
*Open to Howards Grove residents only*

Healthy Smiles
In efforts to close any oral healthcare gaps, we are happy to share that we will continue our relationship with Healthy Smiles LLC. Healthy Smiles LLC is able to offer a preventative dental sealant/fluoride varnish program in our school for all children at no charge to you or the school. A licensed dental professional will come to your child’s school for several different visits to provide the following services to your child:
- Dental screenings
- Dental sealants on appropriate primary and permanent teeth
- Fluoride varnishes (1 - 3 fluoride treatments)
- Tooth brushing instructions and oral health education
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- A letter sent home explaining what services were done and suggestions for further treatment after each visit
- The next school year Healthy Smiles LLC is able to follow up and apply or replace any needed sealants
All procedures will follow recommendations from the American Dental Association and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/s recommendations for school-based dental sealant programs. The treatment which your child will receive in this program is not meant to be an alternative to regular dental care. It is still strongly recommended that you seek out a dental home (family dentist) for routine care including any follow up care which may be recommended after your child has completed this school based oral health program. Our school-based clinics take place twice per school year, once in fall and again in spring.
Please fill out this online consent form (even if you wish not to have your child participate): WI Seal-A-Smile Consent Form. This permission is effective for two years to replace lost sealants when checked after one year or to have sealants applied on teeth that were not sealed this year.

News from Northview Physical Education
We are so excited for a new year of Northview PE! We are off to a wonderful start and are currently in our first unit-soccer! From there, we will move into overhand throwing and some football skills and activities for the older grades. Looking ahead to November, students will be exploring the skills of balance and coordination through gymnastics! Be on the lookout for some exciting things later in the year including the Kids Heart Challenge in February and of course there is already buzz from the students about Sneak Up in late April! It's going to be a fun year of movement, learning, teamwork and lots of smiles! I can't wait to see what our students can accomplish! Below are a few pictures from our first days of PE this year.
4th Grade Spotlight
4th grade has been busy with many back to school activities that embraced everyone's unique characteristics. The 4th graders built commonality towers by finding similarities between their peers and participated in a book tasting. We have kicked off our first units of math and CKLA. Our unit 1 focuses include place values and personal narratives. We have enjoyed getting to know our 4th graders and are looking forward to a great year ahead!
How to Pick a Book to Read with you Children
Finding the right book for your child can often be difficult. We want something that they will want to read and something that they are able to read themselves. (Remember, graphic novels and audiobooks count as books too! These can be great ways to get kids started.)
Here are some tips for how to find a book and some sites that have book ideas.
