October Edition October Edition

Dear Silverhawk Families,

October is here, and we have so much to celebrate at The Traditional Academy at Bellair! As we wrap up our first quarter, we are incredibly proud of the hard work, growth, and positive habits our Silverhawks have demonstrated. Thank you to our families for your continued partnership and support as we work together to make this a successful school year.

πŸ“š Book Fair & Parent-Teacher Conferences

Our Book Fair begins October 5! We love seeing our students get excited about choosing new books and developing a love of reading. Be sure to stop by and check it out!

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held October 8 and 9, with half days for students. Conferences are an important opportunity to celebrate your child's accomplishments, discuss academic progress, and work together to establish goals for the second quarter. Please make sure to sign up for a conference with your child's teacher.

🍁 Fall Break Is Almost Here!

There will be no school October 12–16 for Fall Break. We hope our Silverhawk families enjoy this time to relax, recharge, read a good book, and spend time together. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for a great second quarter!

πŸ“Έ Picture Day – October 28

Get those smiles ready! Fall Picture Day is Wednesday, October 28. Students should wear their school uniforms for pictures.

πŸŽƒ Trunk or Treat – October 29

One of our favorite family events is almost here! Join us for our annual Trunk or Treat on Thursday, October 29, from 5:00–6:00 PM.

We would greatly appreciate candy donations, which can be dropped off at the front office. We are also looking for families and staff members to decorate their vehicles and pass out candy. The more trunks, the better! If you would like to decorate a trunk, please email christine.fitzsimmons@dvusd.org.

Preschool Updates Preschool Updates

Hello Preschool Families!

This month we have been learning about community helpers. So far we have learned about Firefighters, EMTs, and Police Officers. We are hard at work learning our letter names, sounds, and formations. Our fine motor skills grow and develop everyday through sensory play, cutting, beading, and writing activities. We thoroughly enjoyed the DVHS Homecoming parade too! Next month we will host Parent Teacher conferences so we can share our progress with our families.

We are excited to announce that our program will soon be assessed through Quality First! This program ensures that we are meeting early childhood learning standards, and fostering a positive learning environment for all students.

PBIS Acronym S.O.A.R. PBIS Acronym S.O.A.R.

What is PBIS?

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and wellbeing. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives. We use β€˜students’ to refer to all children and youth in any educational or therapeutic setting (e.g., K-12 school, early childhood program, treatment program, juvenile justice program). Learn more about PBIS in schools, classrooms, early childhood programs and juvenile justice programs on those topic pages.

Our new PBIS Acronym is S.O.A.R. Silverhawks show Safety, Ownership, Achievement and Respect. Please help us to instill these behaviors at home, so we can all "S.O.A.R. to #Extraordinary Heights Together!"
