"It's a great day to be a Panther"
November 11th - November 15th
Principals Message
Happy Friday DKMS families! It's been another great week here at DKMS!
As of last Friday, students have successfully completed the first marking period and started the second. Report cards are being emailed out today. If you have not received your child's report card by Monday, please call the middle school office at (269) 623-1541. We will be able to verify the email address you have on file in PowerSchool.
With the start of the second marking period, it is important for students to start strong. We will still be offering Success Center every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This is a great opportunity for students to get extra tutoring and time on their assignments. Students can just show up, but they need to have a way home at 4:00 pm.
I would like to remind everyone of a few important school dates that are coming up:
- Friday November 15, 2024: No school for students
- November 27th, 28th, 29th (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday): Thanksgiving Break, No school for students
- Monday December 2, 2024: Start of the second trimester, new RASL classes for students
As always, I would like to thank our students, staff, families, and community for all of your hard work and support. I would like to give a special shout out to all of our veterans and everyone who helped put on today's Veterans Day Tribute. Another phenomenal tribute! To our veterans, thank you for your courage and selflessness in serving our country!
Have a great weekend!
I JUST CAN'T HIDE THAT PANTHER PRIDE!!! GO PANTHERS!!!
Thank you,

Celebrating World Kindness Day – November 13
This year, our school is proud to celebrate World Kindness Day on November 13, a day dedicated to spreading kindness and fostering positive change in our community. In honor of this special day, we asked our students to share what kindness means to them, and the responses were heartwarming!
This World Kindness Day, take a moment to perform a kind act – whether it’s lending a hand to a friend, complimenting a peer, or simply sharing a smile. Every act of kindness helps make our school a better place for everyone.
Let’s all remember that kindness is contagious – the more we give, the more it spreads.
6th-8th Graders Build Skills with Second Step Lessons!
The 6th-8th grade recently completed the first unit in their Second Step (Social Emotional Learning) lessons. This unit introduced how our brain functions when it is shown new things and how we can even re-train our brain to become better when we set goals and change our mindset while trying something new. We also talked about managing disappointments and failures and overcoming obstacles.
To put these ideas into practice, students worked in teams on a hands-on challenge: planning a strategy to get their group from one side of the room to the other. They navigated obstacles, adapted to failed attempts, and found ways to use each other’s strengths. This activity helped students apply what they learned, showing them the power of persistence, teamwork, and creative problem-solving.
