Hardy Happenings August 25, 2025
Hardy HappeningsAugust 25, 2025

Dear Hardy Families,

You are cordially invited to Back to School Night this Thursday, August 28. The Principal’s message is in the auditorium from 5:30 to 6:00 pm, Session 1 begins at 6:00 in classrooms, and Session 2 begins at 6:30 in classrooms. This is an adult-only evening, so families can focus on classroom information.

On Wednesday, we will hold our Leadership Assemblies. Students will review school rules and expectations and learn about the many leadership roles available at Hardy. Applications will be available via Google Forms on Wednesday. Please support your student with their application, while allowing them to express their own thoughts and responses. Completed applications are due Wednesday, September 3 at 3:00 pm. Some roles are specific to certain grade levels, details will be in the packet.

We also encourage you to nominate yourself for our school councils, the English Learner Advisory Committee, ELAC, the School Site Council, SSC, and the Site Governance Team, SGT. Nomination forms are listed below.

This Friday, August 29, is an additional minimum day, and Lost and Found items will be donated after school. There is no school on Monday, September 1, for Labor Day.

Next week, please join us for our first Family Friday on Friday, September 5, classroom reading will follow the morning assembly, and the PTA general meeting begins at 8:00 am in the auditorium. I hope to see you there!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Aragon

Morning Arrival and Tardies

We had over 50 students arrive after our late bell today. We know traffic on Montezuma can be tricky, but please plan ahead, wake up a bit earlier, and arrive on time. The first bell rings at 7:40 am, and students may go straight to class. The late bell is at 7:45 am. Students arriving at or after 7:45 must enter through the office to get a late pass. Arriving late disrupts your child’s opportunity to enter with their peers, participate in morning routines, and lose vital instructional minutes. Thank you for being proactive, Leader in Me Habit 1, and helping your child start the day on time.

Enrollment Update

Hardy’s enrollment has exceeded district projections, and we expect an increased staffing allocation when the district reviews enrollment at the end of the month. This will allow us to open additional classes, reduce class sizes, and meet all contractual requirements. If approved, we will need to adjust class rosters, especially in K to 2. We know students form strong connections, and we will make any changes as smooth and supportive as possible. We will keep you informed as details are confirmed. Please note that we are not able to take placement requests or make individual changes during this reorganization. Class lists will be created the same way we do in spring, balanced and equitable across classrooms.

Thank you for your partnership and flexibility as we make these improvements for our Owls.

Important Traffic Reminders

Do not line up before 1:55 pm, 15 minutes before dismissal.

• Arriving before 1:55 pm blocks after-school employees, district food trucks, and families arriving for appointments.
• If you arrive before 1:55 pm, you will be asked to turn around and park off campus until the correct time.

TK FAMILIES
• You have priority at 1:45 to enter and pick up your child. Our TK team is working to create car placards for you to display to allow you to enter early.
• Non-TK families will be turned around until the gate opens for K–5 families at 2:00 pm.

Otter Pop Sales for 5th Grade Activities

5th graders will be selling Otter Pops for .50 cents after school on Wednesday as a fundraiser for 5th-grade activities.

LCFF Form Submission - Complete today!

Each year, the district asks for your help in securing important funding for our school by completing the LCFF form. The confidential 2025–26 LCFF form is now available electronically in your PowerSchool Parent Portal.

We are seeking 100% participation. By completing this form, Hardy can receive tens of thousands of dollars in additional funding to directly support our students and programs.

You need to complete the form once for each child. The easiest way to check if you’ve already submitted it is to log into your PowerSchool Parent Portal and click the LCFF Data Collection button on the bottom left side.

If you have any questions or need help setting up your Parent Portal, please contact mcurtin@sandi.net.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to complete this, your participation makes a big difference in our funding for Hardy!

PowerSchool Parent Portal Access

PowerSchool Parent Portal letters have been sent home only for students who are not currently linked to an existing parent account.

If you did not receive a letter, that means you already have a Parent Portal account connected to your student(s).

If you think you do not have an account, but also didn’t get a letter:

  1. First, try logging in at http://powerschool.sandi.net/public/ or reset your password.

  2. If that still doesn’t work, email mcurtin@sandi.net and we’ll help you get set up.

Birthday Celebrations

From our Hardy Guidebook: BIRTHDAY PARTIES/CAMPUS CELEBRATIONS

Arrangements to honor a child’s birthday on campus MUST be made in advance with the teacher. We are a ‘Healthy Celebrations’ school, which means we allow non-food items or healthy food only for celebrations. This disassociates junk food from celebrations. Please consider the following to celebrate birthdays on campus:

  • Fruit kabobs

  • Non-food items for the class: pencils, bookmarks, stickers, etc.

  • Donating a book to the class and having the teacher read it

  • Asking your child’s teacher to give five extra recess minutes

Please also refrain from bringing balloons/flowers/etc, as they can be distracting for the learning environment.
