The Wednesday Weekly
April 30, 2025
Message from Ms. Joanna
Dear Families,
We are in the midst of New York State ELA testing, and I want to give a big shout-out to our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who are putting forth their best effort to show all they’ve learned this year. A very special thank you to Ms. Rinah, our testing coordinator, who singlehandedly organizes and oversees the entire testing process at PS 107. This is no small task—it’s an enormous endeavor that she manages with grace, skill, and attention to every detail.
Next week, students in 3rd grade will take the NYS Math test, and the following week, our 4th and 5th graders will take the computer-based NYS Math test. We wish them the best of luck!
A reminder about The Wednesday Weekly – in order to see our school calendar, you might need to click to view the entire message or view the newsletter in your browser. Important dates are always included in The Wednesday Weekly, and we want to make sure all of our community members are seeing them.
CREATING CLASSES FOR 2025-26
It’s hard to believe we’re already in the final stretch of the 2024–25 school year. One of the most important things we do during this time is begin the process of creating new classes for next year. This is a complex and collaborative effort that involves teachers, specialty staff, our counselor and social worker, and the administrative team.
When creating class groupings, teachers consider a wide range of factors: students’ social-emotional needs, academic skills, friendship dynamics, teacher-student match, and more. Our goal is always to build balanced, inclusive classrooms that reflect the diversity of our community and help students develop the skills they need to thrive in society. Specialty teachers provide a big-picture perspective across grades, and both Ms. Rinah and I conduct a final review to ensure the best possible fit for every child.
Because of the complexity and care involved in this process, I want to be clear that we:
Do not take requests for specific teachers or for your child to not be placed with a particular teacher.
Do not make changes to class assignments once they are finalized and shared in August.
Do not hold individual meetings to discuss placements.
We do, however, make every effort to ensure that each child is placed with at least one peer they know. It may not be their best friend, and that’s okay—part of our job is to support students in building new relationships and navigating change. Our school counselor, Sarah Green, and social worker, Colleen Dondero, are always available to support children who may need extra help with this transition.
VOTE FOR CEC15 REPRESENTATIVES!
On another note, a reminder that CEC elections are now underway! Voting is open through May 13 via your NYC Schools Account (NYCSA). These councils play a vital role in shaping school policy and representing parent voices. We’re thrilled that one of our own—third grade parent and PS 107 alum Angelica Cesario—is running for a seat on the District 15 CEC. To learn more and vote, please visit: CEC Elections Info
UPCOMING EVACUATION DRILL
Finally, with the warm weather returning, we are resuming our required Evacuation (Fire) Drills. Our next drill will take place on Friday, May 9, at 1:45 PM. These drills help ensure that all students and staff know what to do in the event of an emergency.
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support. It is a privilege to work alongside such a thoughtful, engaged, and generous parent community.
Warmly,
Ms Joanna

REMINDERS & HELPFUL TIPS
NYC SCHOOLS ACCOUNT - NYCSA
This is a NYC DOE parent account for students grades K - 12 that enables parents/guardians to view all of their children’s records - grades, fitnessgrams, attendance, your child’s DOE email, etc. At least one parent/guardian will need to have access to this account.
We strongly encourage all parents/guardians to have their own account. Any parent with children in grades k-5 who does not have their own NYSCA , please contact nbenlarbi2@schools.nyc.gov for instructions and your unique account creation code.
MAKING SCHOOL DAY DISMISSAL PICK-UP CHANGES
If there is a change to your child’s dismissal, please be sure to note the change on the Daily Dismissal form in Operoo. If it is a same day change, please email your child’s teacher and cc Nadia at nbenlarbi2@schools.nyc.gov in addition to making any changes on the Daily Dismissal form. You can also contact the main office at 718-499-2054.
MAKING AFTERSCHOOL DISMISSAL CHANGES
If you need to add a new pick up person for your child in afterschool, please make sure to update this on 6Crickets (Click Here). Afterschool and PS 107 partner in many ways, but not with our information applications. They can't access Operoo and we can't access 6Crickets.
Thank you for your assistance in ensuring your child's safety 😊
IDENTIFICATION
When entering the school building you must present your ID to the safety agent when signing in.
One helpful tip is to take a picture of your id. Often, we will have our phone with us even if we don’t have our id. This way, you always have it handy :)
