JSMS Parent Involvement Meeting - 8/26/26

Wed. August 26th, 9am in the JSMS library

We are going to have a parent meeting to brainstorm and share ideas/thoughts about how we (parents/guardians/staff/community) can come together for some awesome things this school year. Hope to see you there!

#WarriorFamily

Attention 6th grade families - Consent Form for Medical and/or Mental Health

Here is the link to the form: Consent for School Medical Care & Mental Health Support 26-27

  • If you are the parent/guardian of a 6th grader, this needs to be completed (even if they attended a KCS elementary school).
  • Please note: this must be completed prior to your child visiting the school clinic (in addition to the completed clinic card that comes home with students in the back to school paperwork).

Attention 7th grade families - school trips

On Monday, August 10, your child will receive a behavior contract. In order to be eligible for our 7th gr trips in December and May, this contract must be signed and returned. If your child needs another copy of the contract, they may stop by Mr. Carr's room any time to get one.

Attention 8th grade families - DC trip

Students who are interested in the 8th grade Washington DC Trip received paperwork Friday, August 7 (paperwork outlines the trip details/cost). The first payment will be taken up Thursday, September 3 in the morning in the Sevier gym. Students must have all paperwork turned in with their first payment. Do not miss out on this great opportunity!

Football

Anyone interested in joining the football team needs to come talk to coach Spivey, Coach Colobro, or Coach Roberts.

Middle School Weight Lifting

Weight lifting at D-B is available Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 3:15-4:00pm. This opportunity is open to all students, not just those that play a sport. All off-season athletes are strongly encouraged to come.

  • Students must wear clothes appropriate for lifting & tennis shoes, and an updated sports physical must be on file to attend.
  • Bus transportation is provided from Sevier to D-B. Students interested in riding the bus will need to be added to the bus list for weight-lifting days. To be added, students need to bring a note from a parent to the office and the student will be added to the bus list (or parent can call the JSMS office).
  • Parents are required to pick-up from the D-B field house (near the scoreboard end of the football field) at 4pm.
  • If students or families have any questions please reach out to Danielle Edwards, dedwards@k12k.com or Coach Fleming, zfleming@k12k.com

KCS Family Life

KCS Family Life meeting will be held in the Sevier Library on August 11th and 12th from 5:30-7:30pm. Mrs. Baker will be discussing the curriculum used during this time and will be available for questions.

A note from the SRO regarding traffic patters

This is a reminder for parents to avoid parking in front of the yellow curbs and no parking zones around the school as well.

It may be helpful to make everyone aware of the traffic patterns on Wateree St and Catawba St during student pick up and drop off. The following traffic patterns are in effect on school days from 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM - 3:10 PM:

  • Wateree St is a one way street with traffic traveling from Oak St towards Piedmont Dr.
  • Catawba St is a one way street with traffic traveling from Piedmont Dr towards Oak St.

Also, it would be helpful if parents will avoid dropping off their students on Norwood St and utilize the drop off line on Wateree St. This would minimize the number of students needing to cross the street as well as the amount of traffic needing to turn off of Norwood St. This would result in a safer and more efficient drop off process.

Finally, when parents drop their students off on Wateree St it would be helpful if they would pull up to the crosswalk to let them out rather than stopping near the small gym or the track. Parents should also avoid using the drive up lane in front of the school unless a student needs to be dropped off closer to the school due to a disability, injury, medical issue, etc.

Clubs/Activities Clubs/Activities

Stay tuned for more information on upcoming clubs/activities that are offered. These typically begin the end of August or early September.

GENERAL JSMS INFORMATION GENERAL JSMS INFORMATION

Water bottle filling stations

We are blessed to have several water bottle filling stations located throughout the school. It is encouraged for students to bring a water bottle with them to stay hydrated. Also, this helps students from missing class time if they have water with them rather than making trips to the water fountain.

Important Information

  • Please keep your contact information updated. This can be done through your Aspen Parent Portal or by contacting the counseling office (378-2435). It's vitally important that we have current parent/guardian contact information for every student (phone numbers, address, email).
  • Bring your ID when visiting Sevier or checking out your student.
  • If you have bus questions (bus locations, pick-up/drop-off times, etc...) please call transportation at 578-1820.
  • Please try to have after school arrangements communicated with your child prior to them arriving to school.
  • For any early dismissal needs, you must arrive no later than 2:15pm. We will not be calling classrooms for students from 2:15-2:45pm.

Middle School Cell Phone Policy

Students’ cell phones and other electronic devices (including wireless headphones) are to be turned off and not visible upon a student’s arrival to school (upon entering the building) until the end of the student’s school day. Students must store their cell phones and other electronic devices in their backpacks (exceptions may be granted for medical or other extraordinary circumstances as determined by the building principal or designee). Cell phones may be confiscated if this rule is violated. When confiscated from students, parents will be asked to retrieve the cell phone from the school administration.
  • 1st offense - The item will be confiscated and kept at the school for a minimum of five (5) consecutive school days. To retrieve the confiscated item, a parent or guardian must contact the appropriate administrator.

  • 2nd offense - When a student has a second offense during the current semester, the item will be confiscated for a minimum of ten (10) school days. A parent or guardian must retrieve the confiscated item from the front office.

  • 3rd offense - When a student has a third offense during the current semester, the item may be confiscated for the remainder of the school year. A parent or guardian may retrieve the confiscated item at the end of the school day on the last day of the school year.
