LMS Friends,
It is hard to believe that we have already arrived at our winter break! The 2021-2022 school year is just flying by!
It has been spirit week this week with all kinds of different theme days. Our students have been busy at work preparing for the winter door decorating contest and some great work is already underway. This is our third contest, and they have been a resounding success in creating more school spirit. A big thank you goes out to the Student Council for organizing these contests this year!
This past Wednesday, we also had a strong performance by our chorus and band students at the Lebanon Opera House. We included pictures from the event in this week's Scoop along with the recording of the show. A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Garnham, Mr. Terry, and Mr. Franklin who organized and executed this event for our students and families.
It is our hope at LMS that everyone has a restful and relaxing break. Please remember that school is closed December 22nd through January 2nd. We will be back at school on Monday, January 3rd for 2022! We will publish our next Scoop on Friday, January 14th.
As we look forward to 2022, these photos seemed relevant depicting the sunrise on Wednesday (photo below courtesy of Mrs. Proctor from the LMS roof).
Have an awesome weekend and upcoming break! Happy New Year!
Regards,
John P. D'Entremont, Principal

Car Drop-Off & Pick-Up Reminders
Students can start exiting cars at 7:15 AM in the morning.
We then encourage you to drop your student off along the sidewalk in the drop-off loop. Please pull as far forward as you can. Encouraging your student to be ready to get out once the car stops with all of their items does speed up the process. 7th and 8th grade students can get out and walk down and 5th and 6th grade students can get out and walk up.
Car loop pick-up begins at 2:30 PM in the afternoon. Please pick up your student in the car loop. We do not want students picked up on Moulton Avenue. You can certainly change your student to a walker in PikMyKid and pick up your student on Prospect St./Prospect St. Ext. Other families and our neighbors thank you for your cooperation.
Thank you for your collective efforts keeping the drop off loop in the the mornings and afternoons running smoothly.

Latest Update by Nancy Pageau
We made it to our Holiday break! I hope you all are able to slow down and get some well deserved rest. If you plan to spend time with family and friends please continue to be safe by getting vaccinated, wearing masks, testing for covid with any symptoms and following the NH DHHS isolation/quarantine guidelines, if they apply to you.
Isolation guidelines if you test positive:
https://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/cdcs/covid19/documents/self-isolation-covid.pdf
Quarantine guidelines if you are exposed to a positive person who lives in your household and you are unvaccinated:
Self Observation guidelines if you are exposed to a positive in the household and you are vaccinated, or exposed to a positive who does not live in your household:
https://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/cdcs/covid19/documents/self-observation-covid.pdf
Travel guidance for if you are travelling out of the country over the break:
https://www.dhhs.nh.gov/dphs/cdcs/covid19/documents/travel-guidance.pdf
If a student tests positive over the break, follow the above guidelines and email me the date of the positive test, type of test (rapid or PCR), whether there were symptoms prior to testing and a copy of the positive results (npageau@sau88.net). I will follow up with you and DHHS when we return from break. You should let your PCP know that your child tested positive.
Please continue to send in updated physicals and immunizations records as they are completed. If you choose to share the date of covid vaccines, I will add those to the immunization record I have on file at LMS.
Lastly, take care of yourselves. Looking forward to 2022!
Happy Holidays,
Nancy Pageau

What will happen if a pool comes back positive?
We will follow this process for unconfirmed or confirmed positive cases:
If by chance a pool comes back positive, we will notify the staff and the families of those students in the pool that there is an unconfirmed positive case.
Students/staff in the pool will be asked to monitor for symptoms and will be tested two days later.
After the follow-up testing, those in the pool will be notified of either the negative or positive result.
The person who tested positive will be asked to isolate and close contacts will be notified per the procedures we have been following since the start of the pandemic. The Superintendent will also inform the larger community of the positive test result.

Got Winter Needs?
The cold weather is here! We want to make sure every student has appropriate winter clothing to get outside and stay warm. This is just a friendly reminder that we do have resources to help families acquire gear if needed. Please feel free to contact one of our School Counselors if we can help.
Social Skill of the Week - 5th Grade by Mrs. Stockwell
The past two weeks we have been learning about Goal Setting in our 5th grade School Counseling lessons. This is a self-management skill we can all use!
To start, the students experienced an adaptation of the Marshmallow Experiment. For those that don’t know, the Marshmallow Experiment was a study that tried to measure how the skill of delayed gratification impacts peoples’ success in measurable areas of their life such as academics and career. Young children in the study were given a marshmallow and told that if they could wait alone for 15 minutes without eating the marshmallow, they would then be given a second marshmallow to eat. The original study then followed these students through adulthood to measure the difference in performance between the young children who were able to wait for the second marshmallow, and those who couldn’t. Although the original experiment was later determined to be flawed, it gave us lots of interesting data to mull over. Talking about the Marshmallow Experiment was a good way to start a discussion about the importance of delayed gratification in helping our students achieve their goals.
To make it personal, students have each written a SMART goal, then have identified the things that will be a distraction to them achieving their goal, as well as learning how to use neutral language to help reframe those distractions. Now they will be getting out there to practice and make it happen!
