The Sixth Scoop

Thanks to Evanston Public Library for coming to Nichols Middle School to host the Makers Space for our students. They will be coming once a month. If your child missed it, please have them reach out to Mrs. Philippe, our librarian, so that they can sign up to attend the next session.

At Nichols, we support our student athletes. We love for our students to be involved in extracurricular activities. We also value education as a priority. Each week, a grade check is sent to our teachers to ensure that our athletes are also performing in class academically and behaviorally. Teachers inform the coaches if they have any athlete that has a D/F, or are being disruptive/disrespectful, walking the halls, or shout them out for examples of selflessness, leadership, and exceeding expectations. We want to support our students who may be struggling but also celebrate our students who are exhibiting R.O.A.R. expectations.

Each teacher selects a student of the month who symbolizes the theme for the month. In September, the theme was Respect. So, on this Friday, during 7th period, we will have our student assembly and the students will be awarded their certificates. They will also take a picture. Please make sure your child's release forms are completed. I would like to feature each winner in next week's newsletter so we can celebrate our scholars together.

School has been in session for over a month! We have enjoyed getting to know your child. We hope that middle school has been a good experience for them so far. Now, that we have completed our Fall MAP testing, all content area teachers have begun to teach their specialities. This is when learning becomes more challenging for our scholars. We want to ensure that we are not only meeting their intellectual needs but we are also ensuring that each of our students feel safe and have a sense of belonging. You are the expert on your child. We would like for you to complete this form to give us even more insight on how we can best make Nichols a home away from home for them. I plan to share this form with our 6th grade teacher team so that they can always refer to it as a resource when best supporting our 6th grade scholars.
