Permenter Longhorn Check In
November 13-17, 2023
Notes from the Principal:
- Thank you for your support and participation in the voting process and the passing of the VATRE! I pray this helps to retain and recruit quality teachers for our scholars.
- While we may be looking forward to the Thanksgiving holiday with excitement, this week is still a school week and we must be about the important business of teaching and learning. Please encourage your scholar to remain steadfast and focused. Scholars who are found to be in breach of the CHISD Code of Conduct will face the appropriate consequences.
- This week is anti-bullying week. Scholars will be receiving messages and tips to strengthen our resolve against bullying. While there are different themed days this week, scholar bottoms can only be jeans or uniform pants - no sweatpants. Thank you.
Youth Truth Survey (family edition) - I will be forwarding a link for your input in our 2023 Youth Truth Survey. We have taken several measures this year to improve our safety as well as ensure Permenter is a place that is conducive to quality teaching and learning:
Consistent communication with scholars and families about campus expectations
Weekly Longhorn lessons on Mondays to address campus needs and also reinforce reminders about possible consequences
Weekly Longhorn lessons providing counseling and guidance information
We have a fully staffed counseling dept. that seeks collaboration with other agencies and district behavior specialists
Clear processes for conflict resolution meetings with students who show the need
Administered assessment survey to staff, students and families so that the counselors can have a clear and data-based snapshot of the needs of our campus
Bi-weekly meetings to examine campus trends and needs
We held two events on November 6th to meet the expressed needs of our students and families: an in-person gender based assembly and a digital workshop for parents on the topic of Cyberbullying.
Addressed hallway traffic with use of one way movement in high-traffic areas of some of our hallways.
We have a reliable and consistent safety presence with our SRO Officer Johnson and security Officer Marine.
Host an in person assembly each grading cycle to address behavior, expectations, and communicate resources for emotional support.
Held a PBIS event to recognize students who make positive behavior choices (the 2nd will occur this week).
Recognized students who earned perfect attendance for the 1st grading cycle.
Ensured we are 100% staffed so our scholars can receive a quality education in a safe environment.
- Please encourage your scholar to make the most of every school day and work to finish strong academically, socially with their interaction with their peers and with their attendance.
- Please be sure to touch base with your scholar's teachers to keep current on their academic progress as well as important deadlines and other academic activities.
- Please encourage your scholar to let a school counselor or administrator know if they are having conflict with others. Some of our scholars are making unhealthy choices to resolve problems and it is resulting in unsafe practices. We want our school to have a productive teaching and learning environment. Please partner with us to help make this happen.
- Please make note that all middle school scholars must wear their ID badges to all CHISD athletic functions and be accompanied by their parents/guardians. This does not include one adult accompanying different scholars that they do not serve as their parent/guardian.
- The grace period for unnatural hair color expired October 5th. All hair color must now be within CHISD dress code or consequences will be applied. We have started this process after weeks of grace and there still seems to be much confusion. Please be sure to read the dress code carefully so we are all on one accord.
- There has been a revision to our standard of dress for scholars each week. Please make note of the change regarding Fridays. Scholars can now wear college/university tops on Fridays with jeans as another option beyond CHISD spirit attire.
- Families are financially responsible for lost or damaged Chromebooks. Insurance is available and worth the investment. Click here to learn more information and sign up for insurance for your scholar's Chromebook.
- It is imperative that all scholars bring their charged Chromebooks with them daily. We need all scholars present, on time, focused and committed to their personal scholastic achievement.
Faithfully,
Dr. Lemons
