TKES Pre Conferences for grades K, 1, 2, 3 will be August 19th during your regularly scheduled Curriculum Chat in the Admin Conference Room for the first 15 minutes of your planning time. Pre Conferences for all other teachers will be during the first 15 minutes of PLC time on Tuesday, August 25th. At that time, we will review the TKES process and input our goal/plan.
Reminders:
- Please do not send students to the clinic between 11:00-12:00 unless it is absolutely necessary. IF a student bumps their head, this IS considered an emergency, and they need to be seen in the clinic. If a student is sick and throwing up or is stung by a yellowjacket, students should also be sent to the clinic. Also, please review which students are allergic to stings and have epi pens. Thank your help as we navigate our students with severe medical diagnoses.
- Please go into the TKES platform by August 31 to complete your TKES online Orientation, then your Self Assessment. You get to this platform through Infinite Campus/Ga Doe/SLDS. If you need any help, please reach out!
- FCS Annual Required Trainings are due August 31.You can access a course overview (with instructions) and course link from this page within the Professional Learning internal hub: SY26-27 Annual Required Trainings.

PK-Grade 5: Field Trip Planning is Underway!
Teaching Museum Field Trip Experiences (scheduled by FCS and assigned to us):
- PK: Tiny Tales on May 3 at 9am at SHE
- PK (SN): Garden Tales on May 3 at 9am at SHE
- 2nd: Cherokee and Muscogee Tribes on October 22 at 10am at Chattahoochee Nature Center
- 5th: Electricity and Magnetism SteamBUS on August 19 at 8am at SHE
- 5th: Physical and Chemical Changes SteamBUS on March 29 at SHE
Teaching Museum Extra Experiences (FCS gave us the opportunity this week to request certain other trips that weren't yet full. I have submitted our name for these experiences, and will let you know if we are selected. The dates were very narrowly defined and don't necessarily match up with when the content is being taught, so this is a work-in-progress.)
- KK: Shapes in Music at SHE
- 1st: Ben Franklin at SHE
- 3rd: The Word Collector at SHE
- 4th: StarLab at SHE
SHE-sponsored Field Trips (The following trips are in the works. Our PTO will pay for coach buses for grades 3-5. FCS school buses will be utilized for grades K-2.) If a specific trip is not listed for your grade level yet, please come and see me or invite me to an upcoming team meeting to discuss options.
- KK: Art Barn in April
- 1st:
- 2nd:
- 3rd: Tellus Museum on February 11
- 4th: Franklin Gold Mine
- 5th:
- 5th Overnight: Rock Eagle October 22-23
My goal is to have all field trips scheduled and arranged by Monday, August 31st. This would be a big improvement for me over the past few years. Help me meet my goal!
Continuous Achievement
Our Academic Support Team (Lindsay, Brian, and Stephanie) will review iReady results for incoming students to see if it appears that they need changes to their Continuous Achievement placement.
For example: A new 5th grade was placed in an on-level class. Their iReady Reading was overall 6th grade, and you notice they are very competent in class. That student might need to be moved to an Advanced roster. This is usually pretty easy to do, because most classes include a combination of On and Advanced-level learners. Movement to an Accelerated roster typically involves a more dramatic schedule change and will require much further discussion to make sure we have enough data to make an informed decision.

Literacy Flow Chart
As we are completing assessments (iReady and Amira) please keep the literacy flow chart in mind when reviewing the data! We need to be focusing on students scoring below 30th percentile on iReady and students scoring yellow or red on Amira.

4th will be working on the BAP and selecting assessments.
5th will be looking at iReady data to identify skills for skills groups.
Math Unit Study Guides
I will begin creating study guides for unit 2 and they will be placed in Teams channel (Math folder - Study Guides or Family Letters folder - Unit folder). Moving forward teams will be part of the study guide creation process. Please follow the guidelines below for sending home the appropriate elements the first week of math unit 2.
MATH
K-1: Send home ONLY the Family Letter that matches each student's Continuous Achievement level.
2-6: Send home the Family Letter as well as the study guide. Please note the difference for ADV and ON. Also, please communicate to parents about the weekly progression of teaching that correlates with the questions on the study guide. Staying on pace with the FCS planner is important since this progression will support the study-guide practice at home.
2nd: Week 1 - problems 1-3, Week 2 - problems 4-8, Week 3 - problems 9-12
3rd: Week 1 - problems 1-9, Week 2 - problem 10, Week 3 - problems 11-13
