CubConnectionsSummer Edition- June 3, 2020

Additional Pick-up and Drop-off Times

You may come by the school and pick up or drop off items, even if you didn't make it during the scheduled time.

Office hours:

Thursday, June 4th - 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Monday, June 8th - Thursday, June 11th will be 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

What to drop off:

  • Library books, teacher's classroom library books, and Chromebooks should be returned to the school. Don't forget the computer charger!
  • Completed school work should not be returned.

What is available for pick-up?

  • Personal belongings
  • Report Cards
  • School pictures that were sent to the school
  • Some teachers also left a gift for the children in their class

What if I don't want the items? Can they just be thrown away?

Yes, but we prefer that parents/students decide what items to throw away. We would appreciate everyone picking up their personal items.

Due to the volume of items we must collect and get back to students, we ask that parents please use this week for this process. Items left after this time could easily get misplaced during our summer cleaning process.

As always, email us with any questions or concerns. jmcalister@mcssk12.org or cdunham@mcssk12.org

Enrollment Decisions - Information to Help You Decide What to do in 2020-2021

Parents,

I know that some of you are unsure what to do about school next year. So, I wanted to provide some information that might be helpful and to clarify a few things.

There will be 3 options in Madison County for 2020-2021

Option 1- Traditional School at Endeavor

  • If you are ready to send your child back to traditional school, we will be ready for them in August.
  • We are developing plans now to keep everyone safe and are developing protocols on what to do when a child or adult in the building is sick.

Option 2- Virtual School at Endeavor

  • Madison County Schools understands that some are not ready to be in a traditional school setting just yet. So option 2 has been created.
  • Each school, including Endeavor, will provide online learning that mirrors classroom instruction but that is completed virtually.
  • Students will still be considered Endeavor students.
  • Direct instruction will be provided by Endeavor teachers either live or through recorded video.
  • Teachers will provide feedback and students will participate in assessments.
  • This is not an extension of the Digital Backpack.
  • When a family feels their student can return to the traditional classroom, they may do so by contacting Mrs. McAlister or Mrs. Dunham.

Option 3- Madison County Virtual Academy

  • Madison County offers a virtual school for students in grades 3-12.
  • This school uses the Odysseyware Curriculum. More information on this curriculum can be found here.
  • Students would withdraw from Endeavor and enroll in the Madison County Virtual Academy. You may find more information on the registration process for this school here.

Other Information you may need

  • June 19th- We expect Dr. Mackey, State Superintendent for Alabama Schools, to provide guidelines on what school should look like when we re-open. After this date, the district will finalize our plans and more information can then be provided to parents.
  • There will be guidelines in place for safety and Endeavor will follow these strictly. Recommendations from the CDC and the Alabama State Dept. of Health will be consulted in creating these guidelines. Our district nurse is in contact with health officials throughout the state to help develop these guidelines.
  • Endeavor understands that we are dealing with children. We will do all that we can to make children feel safe without making them feel scared.
  • We will also work to make their education all that it should be and will continue to provide Art/Music, Library, PE, Computer, and Guidance even though we may have to make changes in how these things are provided. If we are instructed to remain in one class and not change classes, we will bring these classes to them!
  • We will wait until after June 19th to provide more specifics on what traditional school will look like with safety protocols in place but know that we always appreciate your input. You may email me at any time. jmcalister@mcssk12.org

If you have questions or would simply like to chat about your options, please call or email me.

One more survey needed

Parents,

You have always completed surveys when I ask and given valuable information. I always read your comments and use the information to make school improvements. I need your help once more this year.

The survey below is a part of the district's accreditation process and gives the school and the district valuable information to help continue school improvement. Please take time to complete this survey in the next couple of days. It will remain open until June 19th.

Stepping Up!

Over the last few months, one of the most frequent concerns we have heard from parents is wondering if their child will be ready for the next grade level after being out of school for so long. We wanted you to have a glimpse into the next school year with our editions of the Stepping Up publications. These are designed to let you know what the next grade level will be working on during the first quarter.

Parent Requests for Next School Year

Parents often email us, throughout the summer, asking for certain things for their child for the next school year. If there are things you would like us to consider in the placement of your child for next school year, please complete the form below rather than emailing. This will ensure that emails are not missed or lost. Please complete a separate form for each child.

Grades K-4 will be self-contained (not change classes for math, reading, science, or social studies) next year as a result of the consideration of many data points including information from parent surveys. A list of our staff for next year will be available by mid-June or sooner. I will post this as soon as all positions are finalized.
