Colony Period 10/21 Activities
During Colony Period on Wednesday, October 21st, students will predominately focus on grade-level activities focused on academic progress and college and career planning. Topics will include:
Freshmen and Sophomores: Students will complete an Academic Progress and Goal Setting Survey to review their current performance and identify goals for the remainder of the semester.
Juniors: Students will use Naviance for college and career exploration and review their Junior Checklist to prepare for the college application process.
Seniors: Students will participate in Cookies and the Common App, providing time to work on college applications and review important steps in the application process.
AASA, The School Superintendents Association Survey
Also during Colony Period on Wednesday, October 23rd, BBHHS Students will take the AASA School Superintendents Association AASA survey.
The survey link will be shared with district families on Friday, October 23rd.
The Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District is proud to be a participating district in a nationwide research initiative led by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, in partnership with ThoughtExchange. We are joining thousands of school districts across the country in an important conversation about public confidence in education and how schools can best prepare students for the future.
At the heart of this initiative are two important questions: How can we ensure public confidence reflects the outstanding work happening in our classrooms every day? And what do our students need most to be successful in an ever-changing world?
We are inviting all BBHCSD parents, staff, students, and community members to share their perspectives through a brief, anonymous survey. The survey takes approximately 5–8 minutes to complete and asks participants to reflect on their confidence in public education, identify areas of strength, and suggest opportunities for improvement.
Why is your participation important?
Your feedback will serve two important purposes. First, it will contribute to nationwide research findings presented at the National Conference on Education in Atlanta in February 2027. Second, BBHCSD will receive its own district-specific results, providing valuable insights into our community's perspectives and priorities.
These findings will help inform the development of our next Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District strategic plan and provide important insight into community priorities as we prepare for future levy discussions.
We encourage every family and community member to participate. Whether you currently have children attending our schools or simply care about the future of public education, your voice matters.
Class of 2027 Diploma Name
As we begin preparations for graduation, we ask all senior families to take a moment to verify the name that will appear on their student's official BBHHS diploma.
All senior families must complete the Diploma Name Verification Google Form by Friday, November 2nd. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE FORM IS SET TO ONLY ALLOW THE STUDENT TO COMPLETE IT. PLEASE COORDINATE WITH YOUR STUDENT THE COMPLETION OF THIS FORM AS NEEDED.
This important step ensures that each student's diploma reflects how their name will read on their diploma. For example, if a student is listed as "Michael" but prefers "Mike" on their diploma, that preference must be recorded through the Google Form shared above.
If the verification form is not submitted by the deadline, the diploma will be ordered using the name currently listed in FinalForms.
Because diplomas are ordered well in advance of graduation, changes may not be possible once orders have been placed. We strongly encourage all families to complete this simple but important task to avoid any errors or disappointments.
Thank you for your prompt attention as we prepare to celebrate the Class of 2027! If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Dara Treter in the BBHHS Main Office.
Class of 2027 Homework Outage
For the class of '27 only there will be a homework "outage" the weekend of October 24th, 25th and 26th in order for students in the Class of '27 to finalize their college applications. The BBHHS Counseling Department works with the BBHHS staff annually to provide this time to students free of academic work to focus on completing their applications. Students are encouraged to use this time wisely! Students are also encouraged to ensure they have made requests for staff letters of recommendation in a timely manner so that staff are bot overloaded with last minute requests!
BBHCSD State of the Schools
We invite our entire Brecksville-Broadview Heights community to join BBHCSD Superintendent Mr. Jeff Harrison and members of the district's administrative leadership team for the 3rd Annual State of the Schools Presentation, taking place this evening at 7:00 PM in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School cafeteria.
During this special presentation, Mr. Harrison will highlight the district's continued progress in the third year of our Strategic Plan, celebrate the many accomplishments of our students and staff, and showcase the Exceptional Excellence and Unmatched Value that define a Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools education.
This event provides a wonderful opportunity for families, residents, and community stakeholders to learn more about the exciting work taking place throughout our schools, reflect on our collective achievements, and hear about the district's vision for continued success.
AP Testing Information Emailed to Students & Parents
Earlier this week, all students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, along with their parents/guardians, received an important email communication regarding Spring 2027 AP testing. This correspondence contains important information about the upcoming AP exams, and we encourage all AP students and families to carefully review the details to ensure they are informed and prepared for the testing process. For your convenience, the full communication is included once again below for your reference.
Americanism Test
BBHHS is excited to once again partner with the Brecksville chapter, American Legion to offer the annual Americanism Test on Thursday, October 29th, during lunch periods in room 216.
This annual competition challenges students' knowledge of American history, the U.S. Constitution, government, citizenship, and the democratic principles upon which our nation was founded.
Cash prizes of up to $500 are available for top-scoring students in each grade level.
We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate their civic knowledge, represent BBHHS, and potentially earn cash prizes!
Halloween at BBHHS
We are excited to announce that students will once again be permitted to dress up for Halloween this year! Students are permitted to dress up in their school appropriate Halloween costume on Friday, October 30th for the duration of the school day.
As always, we aim to create a fun and festive atmosphere while ensuring that costumes remain appropriate and conducive to a productive school environment. Students and parents will be informed that costumes must adhr e to the Student Code of Conduct or they will be asked to change out of the costume immediately. Please be aware of the following costume guidelines:
Costumes must be school-appropriate and respectful.
Costumes should not conceal the student’s identity, ensuring safety and easy identification.
Costumes must not be disruptive to the school day or the learning environment.
Costumes may not promote substance use, violence, or any other theme deemed inappropriate and disruptive to the learning process as determined by the school administration.
Senior Yearbook Portrait Makeup Day
Attention BBHHS senior families! If you were unable to attend the previously scheduled Senior Mini Session, this is a great opportunity to have your senior portrait taken for the yearbook by Cavanaugh!
We encourage all seniors who have not yet had their yearbook portrait taken to take advantage of this opportunity and ensure they are included in the Class of 2027 yearbook!
What to do with Halloween Pumpkins?!?
As Halloween comes to a close, The BBHCSD is encouraging our families to embrace sustainability by participating in the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District's Pumpkin Composting Program! Instead of sending your pumpkins to a landfill, give them a second life by turning them into nutrient-rich compost!
Following Halloween, special 20-yard collection containers will be available at designated locations throughout Cuyahoga County for one week. Fortunately, a local drop off site is available for BBHCSD families. Residents can simply drop off their pumpkins and gourds to the Brecksville Service Department, located at 9023 Brecksville Road, where they will then be transported to a composting facility for sustainable composting.
What Can Be Composted?
Whole pumpkins and gourds
Carved jack-o'-lanterns
Decaying pumpkins
What Is NOT Accepted?
Painted, bleached, or chemically treated pumpkins
Pumpkins decorated with permanent markers
Candles, stickers, or other decorations
Cornstalks, hay bales, yard waste, or kitchen scraps
Plastic bags or other packaging
All pumpkins and gourds must be placed directly into the collection containers without bags.
Please remove all candles, decorations, and stickers before dropping them off.
Since launching in 2023, the program has helped keep pumpkins out of landfills, collecting and composting more than seven tons of pumpkins and gourds during its inaugural year alone!
For other outdoor organic decorations, families can find an appropriate yard waste disposal facility. Please do not place pumpkins in your regular yard waste collection.
For additional information, collection locations, or questions about the program, contact the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District at (216) 443-3749 or email info@cuyahogarecycles.org.
Let's do our part to make this Halloween a little greener and continue building a more sustainable community. Go Bees!
BBHHS Key Club American Red Cross Blood Drive
The BBHHS Key Club is proud to sponsor a community blood drive on Friday, November 6th. With a critical need for blood donations throughout our region, this event provides an important opportunity for our students, staff, and community members to make a meaningful difference and potentially save lives.
Students ages 16 and older are encouraged to donate blood during their lunch or study hall periods.
Community members are also welcome and encouraged to participate! All community donors must check in at the BBHHS Main Office upon arrival. Please see the attached flyer for registration details or visit redcrossblood.com.

Colony Cupboard Fall '26 Update
The BBHCSD Colony Cupboard continues to make a tremendous impact across the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District, thanks to the generosity and support of our school community! During the past school year, the Colony Cupboard fulfilled more than 75 supply orders across the district, helping ensure students and families had access to essential resources and basic household needs that many of us often take for granted.
A special thank you goes to our Elementary School Parent Support Organization (PSO), which assembled more than 30 summer support kits filled with school supplies, snacks, and activities for families!
As we move into the fall and winter months, the Colony Cupboard is preparing to expand its support through cold-weather clothing collections, holiday assistance, and nutritious snacks to help students stay focused and ready to learn. These efforts are a wonderful example of our community coming together to support one another.
We encourage all families to read the full Fall 2026 Colony Cupboard Newsletter, included below, to learn more about these initiatives, celebrate the generosity of our community, and discover opportunities to get involved.

Partnernship for a Healthy Community and CAPA
We are excited to introduce a new Word of the Month initiative for our high school students and families, beginning this October with Respect.
This CAPA initiative, created in collaboration with the Partnership for Healthy Community, is designed to encourage meaningful conversations between parents and teens around important character traits. Each month, we’ll highlight a new word and encourage families to explore what that trait looks like in everyday life, while also finding opportunities to recognize and celebrate examples of it.
These same character traits will also be incorporated into activities during the school day, giving students opportunities to learn about and practice each word in their daily interactions.
Our monthly words also align with the Elementary School’s Character Strong Words of the Month, creating a consistent focus on character development across our district.
BBHHS Orchestra Presents: The Beatles!
DO NOT miss your opportunity to watch, A Hard Day's Night Beatles Tribute Band, perform in concert alongside our BBHHS Orchestra on October, 17th. Get ready to twist, shout, and experience the ultimate musical crossover! A Hard Day’s Night, North America’s premier Beatles tribute band, is joining forces with the powerhouse talent of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School (BBHHS) Chamber Orchestra for an extraordinary, one-night-only concert event!
Every ticket purchased directly supports a once-in-a-lifetime journey! 100% of ticket proceeds go toward offsetting travel costs for the BBHHS Orchestra and Choir’s upcoming performance trip to New York City in March 2027.

This Week at BBHHS
It was another busy week at BBHHS, highlighted by some outstanding student accomplishments and meaningful educational experiences both inside and outside the classroom. From national recognition and athletic milestones to community engagement, civic leadership, and musical performances, our students continue to distinguish themselves in a variety of ways. We also celebrated some exciting improvements to our building that will enhance the learning environment for our students for years to come!
We are incredibly proud of Alexa Zetts, Billy Henning, and Madi Lupica (pictured below), who traveled to New York City with Blood Cancer United to be recognized for their extraordinary fundraising efforts last school year. Together, these outstanding student leaders helped raise more than $150,000 in support of the fight against blood cancer. During their visit, they participated in award ceremonies, served on student leadership panels, and even took on hosting responsibilities throughout the events. Their commitment to service, leadership, and making a difference in the lives of others is truly remarkable. We are excited to celebrate these three outstanding Bees one final time for their incredible accomplishments and the positive impact they have made.
BBHHS was proud to host a Unified Sports Flag Football event this week, bringing together student-athletes for a great day of competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Bees had an outstanding showing, advancing to the championship game against Brunswick. Unified Sports brings together students with and without intellectual disabilities to compete as teammates, promoting inclusion, building friendships, and fostering a sense of belonging. We are proud of all the students who participated and helped make this event such a success!
Our Spanish students had a wonderful opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom during a field trip to McGregor PACE, a senior care facility. Students prepared and delivered presentations in both English and Spanish, connecting with participants from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Puerto Rico, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic. The experience provided an authentic opportunity for students to practice their language skills while building meaningful intergenerational connections and learning about different cultures. The participants and staff at McGregor PACE were incredibly welcoming, and our students represented BBHHS exceptionally well. This was a terrific example of experiential learning and community engagement. Thank you to Senora Bartzis for her efforts to make this service-learning project a reality.
Friday night was a special one for BBHHS junior soccer standout Maycie Schreibe , who made what is believed to be school history when she took the field for the Bees varsity football team as a placekicker. Maycie made her varsity football debut and successfully converted three extra-point attempts, scoring three points for the Bees. Making the moment even more special, Maycie's father, Dan Schreiber, serves as our varsity football coach. This was an incredible moment for Maycie, her family, and our entire Bees community. Congratulations, Maycie, on this historic accomplishment!
Our annual joint choir concert with Hudson High School took place this week at St. Basil's Church in Brecksville, bringing together talented student musicians from both schools for an evening of beautiful music. A highlight of the concert was the combined choir's stunning performance of Illuminare. This annual collaboration is a wonderful celebration of the arts and an opportunity for students to connect through their shared passion for music. Congratulations to our choir students and director, Mrs. Emily Garlock, for another outstanding performance.
We are excited to share that the long-awaited furniture for our revitalized BBHHS Media Center was delivered and installed this past week. This improvement represents another important step in our ongoing efforts to provide students with modern, welcoming, and functional educational spaces. The new furniture was purchased using Permanent Improvement funds and replaces the original media center furniture that had been in place since BBHHS first opened its doors as the "new high school" in the fall of 1997. After nearly three decades, this much-needed update will help transform the Media Center into a more flexible and inviting space for students to study, collaborate, and learn. We extend our sincere appreciation to our community for its continued support of our schools and its investment in the educational experiences of our students. We look forward to our students and staff enjoying this refreshed space for years to come.
A special thank you to Mr. Jonah Pichette, who coordinated with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections to provide a training opportunity for BBHHS students interested in serving as poll workers during the upcoming election season. This unique experience allows students to participate directly in the election process while gaining a deeper appreciation for the democratic principles, civic responsibilities, and fundamental rights that are essential to our nation. Opportunities like these bring classroom learning to life and help develop the next generation of engaged, informed citizens. We would like to recognize and thank Matthew Janieszewski, Paul Gallo, Sophia Riley, Aksh Dantal, Lleyton Bell, Matthew Smithberger, Arya Bindra, Alvin Yu, Audrey Fowler, Joy Wolfenbarger, Jackson Kraus, and Talyeen Eltayieb for stepping forward to serve their community. We are proud of these students for taking on this important responsibility and demonstrating the kind of civic leadership we strive to develop at BBHHS.
