Student & Family Handbook Highlight
We look forward to welcoming parents as lunch visitors on Mondays and Fridays, beginning September 11th. If you plan on joining your student at lunch, please read below.
Parent/Visitor Dining (ALL FIRST TIME GUESTS MUST HAVE LICENSE SCANNED)
After completion of the first four weeks of school, parents and visitors are welcome to join their students for lunch in the cafeteria during their students’ regularly scheduled lunchtime on Mondays and Fridays. Only the parent(s) and his/her student can eat lunch on the stage; students cannot bring a friend to eat with them.
The following guidelines should be observed:
1. Please sign in at the kiosk at the front office, print a visitor badge, and then proceed to the cafeteria to meet your child. When the lunch period is over, say good-bye in the cafeteria, and proceed to the front office to sign out. As instructional time continues as soon as students return from lunch, please do not accompany your child to the classroom.
2. Due to safety concerns, all strollers must be left in the hall outside the cafeteria.
3. Please be very quiet as you wait in the cafeteria hall as instruction is ongoing in adjacent classrooms.
4. As there are students who have a variety of allergies, please do not share any food with anyone other than your own child.
5. Please do not buy any food or drinks for children other than your own.
6. All shared treats (e.g., cafeteria-purchased ice cream for the class for a student’s birthday) must be approved by the classroom teacher who is aware of all students’ health concerns prior to the lunch visit.
7. We support our school nutrition program and thereby discourage all outside vendor food being brought in during lunchtime.
8. Please be mindful that lunchtime is not an appropriate time to talk with the teacher about a child’s progress. (Please refer to the “Communication/Conference” section of this handbook for this procedure.)

Attendance Matters ALL DAY, EVERYDAY. Excused and unexcused absences easily add up to too much time lost in the classroom, putting students at risk academically. In order for students to learn and achieve to their fullest potential, it is critical that they attend school and are engaged in the learning process. Student absences, whether excused or unexcused, impact a child's ability to succeed in school.
Some absences are unavoidable. Occasional absences related to health reasons are to be expected, but they can quickly add up.
The important thing is to get your children to school as often as possible and on time! Please don’t forget to email lweattendance@fultonschools.org (and cc the teacher) when your child is absent. Additionally, please remember that the late bell rings at 7:40. Students need to be in their classroom ready to learn at that time. If you are a car rider, please leave a few minutes earlier in the morning to get your child to school on time.
Lateness causes disruptions in learning, and it has an impact on academic success. You will receive an emailed letter from your school social worker once your child has accumulated 12 tardies.
If you have any questions, please reference the FCS Attendance Policy, https://www.fultonschools.org/attendancematters, reach out to the school, or contact Ronda June, LCSW, school social worker: juner@fultonschools.org
Thank you to all the families who have already become LWE PTO sponsors! Your support helps provide valuable enrichment opportunities for our students.
So far, 1 in 4 LWE families has joined. If just half of all LWE families became a sponsor, we would reach our fundraising goal for the year!
For only $60, a Bronze Sponsorship includes a yearbook ($40 value), discount on additional yearbooks, PTO directory access, and free admission to International Night, our biggest event of the year.
Please consider becoming a sponsor and help make this an amazing year for our students!
After School Programs
Lake Windward now has two options for after school childcare, Monday-Friday.
Weekly After School Programs:
These programs begin after Labor Day.
Monday-Challenge Island & Premier Martial Arts
Wednesday- Kid Chess
Thursday-Kid Create Art
Kid Chess
Kid Chess has been one of Atlanta’s most popular after-school enrichment programs since 1998. The program meets at Lake Windward every Wednesday and provides instruction for students of all skill levels, from true beginners to advanced players. To ensure high-quality, level-appropriate instruction, Kid Chess sends multiple coaches to each session, maintaining a uniquely low student-to-teacher ratio.
New this year: Lake Windward is adding a second hour of Kid Chess, and kindergarten students are now invited to enroll in the second-hour session!
