It is imperative for all employees to review their paycheck to ensure that calculations are accurate. Take a moment to review your paystub every payday.
All employees hired between the dates of 08/19/2026 and 09/04/2026 - your first paycheck will be issued on September 18, 2026. You can attend the First Payday Workshop on September 18 to learn how to review your paycheck.
Also remember, the best form of communication in reference to paycheck is email. The payroll person will need to review your check – its not a “I know it off the top of my head” discussion. You can email questions to payroll@colonial.k12.de.us

The most asked question of the day:
Question
I worked from 8/31-9/3, why do I have a full paycheck?
Answer
As a 10 month employee, you are contracted to work a specific number of days based on your contract – teachers 188 days and para 185 days.
The first paycheck of the year is the 9/18 paycheck. You will be paid 22/26 paychecks during the school year (based on your selection of number of pays). It will account for the designated contract days. This is what we call “smooth pay”.
Please remember – you are not contracted to work during winter break, spring break, holidays… but “smooth pay” allows your paycheck to continue during the non-contract pay. The days worked prior is calculated in the smooth pay, therefore will not be calculated outside of your standard 26/22 pay option.
If you have questions, please jump on the First Payday Zoom schedule for 9/18/26.
