Dear CES SHARKS & Friends,
It's the final week before February Vacation. There are NO CLUBS this week. Information and registration forms for Session III Clubs will be shared later this week. Please also keep a lookout for information regarding the PTO's Cupcake Charlie Fundraiser. Information will go home on Monday via backpack mail to all families.
Have a wonderful week ahead!
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Kelly

Recess & Shoes
When there is snow on the ground, students must wear shoes that fully cover their heels. Students wearing crocs, mules, or sandals on snow/muddy days will have to stay on the pavement areas during recess.
Students are encouraged to bring waterproof boots and shoes. Extra shoes can be kept in student cubbies during the day. Thank you for your help!
Grades K-2 Theater Field Trip
Students in Grades K-2 will be attending a special performance on Tuesday, February 27th of the play How I Became A Pirate based off of the children's book by Melinda Long.
Admission to the performance is being sponsored by the Daniel J. Hollis Foundation. The Foundation, created in memory of Dr. Kelly's son Dan, works to provide young people with opportunities to expand their horizons through creativity, healthy competition, and community. As a young boy, Dan was an avid reader and loved pirates. The Foundation is thrilled to provide the K-2 students of CES the opportunity to experience a theater performance of one of Dan's most favorite pirate books.
Notes from Nurse Heidi
Be Aware - Flavored Waters
We are seeing an increase in students bringing flavored waters and sports drinks to school and although they often are marketed to appear as healthy alternatives to sugary sodas, it is important to be aware of potential risks. I want to urge parents to look at ingredient lists when purchasing these drinks to decide what is best for their children.
Things to be aware of:
Sugar and Artificial Sweeteners: Many flavored waters contain hidden sugars or artificial sweeteners that can lead to cavities, digestive issues, and potential long-term health concerns such as weight gain and metabolic disturbances. Be sure to check the ingredient label for sugar content or sweeteners like aspartame, sucralose, or stevia.
Caffeine Content: Some flavored waters contain caffeine. While caffeine is safe for adults, it can cause issues like restlessness, sleep disturbances, or even heart palpitations in children.
Increased Consumption: It’s easy for children to consume more flavored water than they realize-because it tastes good! While flavored waters can provide hydration, they can also lead to overconsumption when not monitored.
While flavored waters can help with hydration, water itself is still the best option. You can try natural flavoring options like adding slices of fruit or herbs to their water bottles.
Our goal is to prioritize the health and well-being of our students by helping them develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
The Importance of Updating PickUp Patrol
For example, a student may have Tuesday Club on their plan, but that was in Session I and they are no longer attending the club. There has been a rise in the number of students reporting their dismissal plan is different than what is listed in PickUp Patrol. To help us keep your children safe and headed to the correct place after school we kindly ask that all families review their current PickUp Patrol plans and make any necessary adjustments.
Last minute changes to a daily schedule will be accepted in the app until 1:00 pm. Please call the office after 1:00 pm if there is a change in the day's dismissal plan.
CES Read Across America
CES March Madness Returns
This week's match up is between COUGAR CROSSING and MILO IMAGINES THE WORLD. Students will vote on their favorite during their Media Class. In the meantime, if you would like to watch and listen to these beautiful stories, please check out the CES Read Across America Playlist on our school's YouTube account. New videos are added each week during the competition.
