Bison Blurb
NBES Weekly Family Newsletter for June 5, 2026
Monday & Tuesday are 1/2 days with dismissal at noon. No BASE!
Happy Summer!
This will be the final Bison Blurb for the year. As we wrap up, I want to take a moment to look back on what an incredible journey it has been. We have had such a wonderful year together, filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable moments.
It has been an absolute joy to watch your children grow—not just academically, but in their confidence, kindness, and creativity. They have worked so hard, and you should be incredibly proud of the amazing individuals they are becoming.
Thank you for your endless support and partnership this year. I hope you all have a fantastic summer break filled with sunshine, relaxation, and precious time spent together as a family.
Awards Ceremony
On Tuesday, June 9 there will be an end of year awards assembly for our 5th grade students. If your child is receiving a special award you should have received an email and/or phone call. Students will also be recognized for principals list and presidential achievement and excellence. Parents are welcome to attend. The assembly will begin at 11:00 in the gym.
We will have a tunnel for the 5th graders as they exit the building for the last time at the end of the day. Students and parents can line the sidewalks beginning at 11:55. We hope to see you there as we celebrate and send them off to middle school!
Dune Coast Baseball
Dune Coast Baseball and the New Buffalo Community Education Foundation are
partnering with the Michigan Economic Development Corp on a crowdfunding grant
from the state of Michigan to build out the areas around the redesigned baseball/softball
complex. If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $75,000 by July 17, the
project will be awarded a matching grant with funds made possible by MEDC’s Public
Spaces Community Places (PSCP) program. This project is utilizing the PSCP
Universal Design and Accessibility Funding Extension to access an additional $25,000
for projects that achieve universal design and accessibility in their public space. Funding
from this campaign will complete the playing field buildout with universally accessible
bleachers and grandstands with chair back seating behind home plate. This is an
investment in social infrastructure as we build a community gathering place where we
can support the aspirations of our young people. The complex will be home to the Red
Arrow Raiders teams as well as the Dune Coast collegiate summer team in the
Northwoods League. The field and grandstands will also be utilized by New Buffalo
Youth sports Pony League team which until this redesign did not have a field to play on
in the New Buffalo area.
How the match works:
Every dollar from a local donor moves the project closer to the goal. Cross the line by
July 17, and a state matching grant lands in New Buffalo. In other words, a contribution
to the Bison Field doesn’t just fund a bleacher: it pulls additional state dollars into the
project that wouldn’t otherwise be there. Individuals who donate $300 can have a
message inscribed on a permanent seat plate to go in the chairback section of the field.
