Principal's Message
Hola Scotties!
Thank you so much for joining us for Back to School Night. As a Staff, we deeply value every opportunity to bring our families together to share in conversation about teaching, learning, connection, and community. Seeing our hallways filled with your warmth and energy is such a wonderful way to kick off the year. Research and experience continually remind us that when schools and families collaborate and work as true partners, student achievement thrives. Your presence and involvement make a world of difference in your child's education, and we are so grateful for your ongoing support.
As we look ahead to a fantastic year, we also want to share a update on our school improvement goal of improving attendance rates at Scott. Good or acceptable attendance means being present at school at least 90% of the time, which translates to missing no more than two days per month. Right now, our schoolwide data shows that 84% of our total student population is meeting this goal, which is a strong foundation. A special shoutout goes to our 3rd graders, who currently lead the school with 90% meeting the goal, and our 5th graders who are in a close second at 88%. We love seeing our students shine when they are here learning with us, and our attendance motto says it best: Scott Students Show Up to Shine. If your family is experiencing any barriers to getting your child to school, please reach out to our school social worker, Ms. Rosi Sanchez, or our school counselors, Mr. Hildner and Candor Wallace. We are always here to help and partner with you to ensure every student succeeds.
Warmly,
Tiana Ahmann

Rightsizing Engagement Opportunities
As the district works through the process of rightsizing and considering school closures, consolidations and restructuring, it is important that our community stakeholders have a voice in the process. I strongly recommend that everyone attend at least one engagement opportunity to share your experiences, thoughts and values related to the rightsizing efforts. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about this process and sharing feedback with Portland Public Schools.
Rainbow Scotties - A New Affinity Space for Our 2SLGBTQIA+ Families to Gather
We want to invite all Scott families in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to be part of a new group, Rainbow Scotties. Our intention is to meet monthly to build and strengthen our community, get our kids together, and support each other.
Please join us for dinner here at Scott on Tuesday, September 22 at 6pm. We'll spend a little time getting to know each other and share ideas for what this group could grow into — We welcome your voice as we dream about how this could be supportive for our families!
Queer parents and parents of queer students are welcome and invited to attend. For more information, reach out to Sara Tretter or Cesily Stevens. We hope to see you on the 22nd!
