Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We hope you enjoyed a restful holiday break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the start of Term 3.

As your new principal, I am honoured to be partnering with you on your child's learning journey, and I look forward to meeting each of you over the coming weeks. I am excited to lead a school that provides a Christ-centred, student-focused education within a loving, supportive and collaborative community. My first impressions of St Columba's are of a warm, welcoming community, united in purpose.

On Monday, we held an assembly where I shared some thoughts with the children about the expectations and culture we wish to uphold as a school. The key points were:

We wear our school uniform with pride.
We greet each other with respect and kindness.
We seek out JOY and glimmer moments each day.

A glimmer moment you might ask?

A glimmer is a tiny moment that sparks a little spark of joy, calm, or connection. It could be a friendly smile, a favourite song, or sunlight streaming through a window. Unlike big, obvious happy moments, glimmers are often small and easy to miss. We will be encouraging students to notice their glimmers each day where they pause to appreciate the small, good things around them. Maybe you could ask your child at dinner: "What was your glimmer today?"

Before I share more about my vision for our school, I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself and my family, so you can get to know a little more about who I am. Like you, family is what I value most. My husband, Cameron, and I have two children. Abi, 25, and Angus, 21. Abi lives in Melbourne, so we try to visit as often as we can. Fortunately, I love football and shopping, so it is a wonderful excuse for a trip! Angus is still at home with us and keeps us entertained with his quick wit.

Vision and Values

I want Christ to be alive in our school, with Jesus at the heart and centre of every decision we make and every interaction we share.
Every child should know they are loved, with their unique gifts and talents recognised, nurtured and given room to flourish.
I believe in creating a school environment where students and staff feel safe and excited to come to school each day, ready to challenge themselves, thrive and engage in their learning.
Our children deserve a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy, along with opportunities to grow in character and citizenship, so they are equipped for the life they are called to lead.
I value partnership with students, parents, staff and the wider community.
Making every family feel welcome is a high priority for me.

My door is always open so please pop in to meet me.

God bless.

Emma Bell

Principal

St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) Winter Appeal this term.

As part of our ongoing commitment to living out our Catholic values through service and compassion, St Columba’s will once again support the St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) Winter Appeal this term.

The appeal will run over the first three weeks of Term 3, from Thursday 23 July to Friday 7 August, and will conclude with a whole-school Pyjama Day, where students are invited to wear their pyjamas to school in exchange for a gold coin donation.

This year, Vinnies has asked schools to collect blankets, warm coats and jumpers, and thick pairs of socks to assist individuals and families experiencing hardship during the colder winter months. We kindly ask that all donated items are clean and in good condition.

Each classroom will receive a washing basket to collect donated items. We encourage students and families to support this important initiative by contributing any warm clothing or blankets they can spare.

Our Mini Vinnies student leaders will regularly collect the donations from each classroom and organise them ready for delivery to Vinnies.

Book Fair is coming soon!

Our school is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair on August 3rd, 4th and 5th.

You and your child will have the opportunity to explore a huge range of affordable books featuring characters and subjects kids love and want to read about. From newly released books and bestsellers to award-winning titles and perennial favourites.

This is also a great way for you to learn about, and discuss your child's interests and every book sold benefits our school, adding resources to our library and classrooms.

Scholastic Book Fairs help us show students the wonder of reading. After all, when kids choose their own books, they will be more excited to read, and they will naturally read more!

We ask that different year groups attend on different days to reduce the amount of people in the library at one time and to reduce queuing outside. See the schedule below. Parents are welcome to attend before and after school.

How to purchase

The children will be given a brochure with online payment details. The classes will visit the fair in school time on Friday before the Book Fair to complete their wish list to bring home. Students can pay with cash or use the receipted online payment form in their shopping time. Please ensure the receipt number and payment amount is clearly noted and please take a copy in case it gets mislaid on the way. Parents and students will also have access to use EFTPOS and cash option during their shopping time. Only books can be put on the wish list and paid for using the pre -payment option. There will also be stationary, posters and journals for sale at the fair which will need to be paid for using cash or EPTPOS.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the Book Fair!
